How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

Morning all, my early walk at 6:45 ,temp was 72 as I walked around the building 1 time before breakfast
This morning at 9,taking the Gates van to local hospital{where I used to work} for my annual mammogram
I may walk home if its not too humid
The rest of my day read today's NYT, my book.
I called in for my dinner reservation in the dining room for 5:30, have no idea who I'll be sitting with
an update, after my mammogram ,I did walk home on a shaded street, a bit warm but not humid, took me 35 min. As soon as I walked in to my air conditioned apt, I drank some cold water, then crashed onto my sofa rested awhile

Well..you may be interested to know I have bought a new car... I spent 2 hours at the car showroom... and now I'm the hopefully proud owner of a new car..

It will be delivered to me at the weekend...There's no rush

.. ... I managed to negotiate a free delivery when it would normally be an added extra....

..before anyone starts panicking.. about how I got there... My friend drove me to the showroom for an appointment I'd made previously with the salesman .. I got to look around the car and in the engine, and ask the relevent questions.. then my friend test drove it for me, the salesman and me all in the car... for 15 minutes..

My back was spasming the whole time.. jeez.. so sore..... and it still is, even tho' I've been home for 3 hours..😩 but I held it together and tried to pay complete attention to all the paperwork etc..

When I got home, I immediately set up a new Insurance cover for it... so it's all done, just got to wait for it to be brought to me.. at the weekend.

This is not the car I bought, mine is a different colour .. same model.. and it's the same year of manufacture... 2022...

Best of luck with your new ride! And congrats on negotiating the delivery. Is this an automatic or standard shift?

If I had to drive a manual, sit on the right side of the car, shift with my left hand, remember to move my feet to shift gears AND drive on the left side of the road, I'd just call a taxi. Or an ambulance because I'd be having an anxiety attack.
that's why Brits are generally the best drivers, because the majority drive manuals... ..and don't forget our tiny one car wide roads in many places...where 2 cars are vying for the same space going in opposite directions:D

I drive a manual in Spain as well.and it's all opposite there for me.. gears on the right, drive right side of the road... gas, clutch, brake... .. and try and read road signs in Spanish on very busy roads wth lunatic Latinos in every second car...

I can do that... :D(y)

I had Clutch and shift 4x4's until 2003. Things went Auto Trans then.
Not a Jeep person and uses more gas. Toyota and F1`50's for me since
1984, 4-runners and pickups. We drive on the "Right" side of the road. LOL
Am holding right now, not sure Ford has the F150's right build now. Bronco ?
My F150's are great all-day drivers / long mileage comfort.

Returned late yesterday 7/29/2025, from a 6-day group backpack into the Hoover Wilderness. Above is a downsized for web version of the 9900x6000 pixel original. Very fun and productive trip and now need some recovery time.

Will be busy post processing images for at least couple weeks so any posting on SF will be minimal. Also, the huge 3-day Dead & Co Polo Grounds venue shows are in SF this weekend (not attending) with several Jerry's Day free events in The City I will be attending some of elsewhere.

Good to read you are continuing to heal @hollydolly and be patient with that slow, gradual process.

My Wife loves her 2011 Kia Sorento... I get to fix it, but it has over 140,000 miles on it now.
She loves her fun vehicle. Just got it back from a Call, I had replaced the PCV anyway.
It got all the Latest downloads then.

Lol, she needs the extra space, is a pro shoper girl. Shows some anxiety
when it breaks down, wheel bearings, front ball joints, Shocks - Brakes.

Over the years I always have the honey-doo list --- :ROFLMAO: ---
she's happy. These are part of Career I led & to do Jobs too. ... :geek: ...

I bet that with that new Kia in the shed, Dolly probably will feel more relaxed with stuff. ... :coffee: ...
Continue hard on that Get my life back plan Doll. .... (y) .....
That Kia is a great car, reliable and also obviously when you get tons of miles on it.
Red and I put at least 30,000 miles on our vehicles a year touring this Metro area and to our Lake home.

The photographer was here this morning, to photograph the house, ready for sale. We had been instructed about having as little clutter as possible. Our keepsakes are all packed away.
Our photographer was a lady, and from her attire, you can tell that she likes to present herself well. The lady was quite taken with my Hawaiian style shirt, I waited until she was photographing one of the bedrooms and then said: "Open the wardrobe door." She looked intrigued, then carefully opening the door her mouth went into that "wow" shape. There was my floral shirt collection, knowing of my wife's sewing ability the lady looked towards my wife and all but whispered: "You made them all?" "She did indeed," I said, rather proudly.

Our photographer has taken back more than just photos of our home, a few of my shirts are now in her camera's memory.

the reason I didn't wait until I'm ready to drive again ..to buy it.. was because here in the UK car manufacturers bring out New Cars twice a year. Once in March, and again in September.. so at this time of the year end of July and August, dealers are desperately trying to make space in their showrooms and forecourts for all the brand new vehicles rolling off the assembly lines.... by reducing the prices of many cars that are a little bit older..

...and this 3 year old car was a great price, around £2000 less than the Blue book price for it's age.. ...and with one owner from New, full service history, and in immaculate condition, and from a well known dealer .. I couldn't let it pass by...because come the autumn, cars on the forecourts will be out of my price range... ..so I had to act fast !

The Kia is a great choice, Holly! Happy you found it!
Enjoy your new mobility. Life is a great ride! ... :ROFLMAO: ...
that removes a lot of the stranded stress too!
keep up the good work with your plan.

We purchased Red's 2011 Kia Sorento in 2017 as it was also like new.
It has been run hard and fixed a couple of times. Mostly our I state
roads suck because of 8000 + 18-wheeler 75mph + traffic a day!
Trying to avoid their tracks is a wise decision. ... :coffee: ...

Much cooler this morning because we've had rain....73 deg....high.. 66 deg currently....

Feeling like absolute shyte today... caused completely by being out at the car showroom yesterday..Pain is awful, feel like my muscles are turning to stone. ...

The great news is that my Tenant Eastern European neighbours..who supply delicious food for me.. have gone off for a month or 5 weeks back home... so there is peace. :( 😣

They 're nice people, but they have 3 kids.. and they are screamers... so all day long except when 2 are at school.. and even then the 3rd at home is still screaming... the noise is awful with all my windows open as I always do

Even the adults are noisy in the evenings when they're sitting out with their beers, and food.. and the kids are out playing.. they have no concern about making noise, and regularly have parties until 4 or 5am... ...

They've only lived here 4 years... and I suspect they will move on in a few short years.. as everyone who has ever been a tenant of that house have in the past because the rents are high ... but in the meantime.. the glorious peace while they're away... will help me in my recovery

Absolutely, Holly lovely Dolly, but if I had my way, I'd get rid of all cars, vans and trucks and use horses again. I might then get a horse and call him Dobbin, and change my name to Robin, then all the villagers would shout, "Ey up, 'ere comes Robin and Dobbin." 😊

Morning all, on my early walk at 6:45, temp was 64,lightly raining as I went around the building once before breakfast, haven't had much rain this month
My friend, Mary picking me up at 9 for our weekly 'road trip' to Target The rest of my day read today's NYT,my book, may go for afternoon walk if its not pouring outside
I'm having my weekly dinner get together at 5:30 in dining room with Connie & the guys, perfect way to end my day

@moviequeen1 You haven't mentioned seeing/playing with "your" dog, Tage, lately. He's probably suffering from separation anxiety, poor pup!🐶

I'm up. We were promised rain last night, but it didn't happen. As soon as I get the first load of laundry started, I have to water the garden.

oooo! That'll make two things on my list of three. Goody. And I'm gonna take the bull by the horns today and do something I've promised myself for months. I scribble down passwords, password changes, etc., and need to make a readable list of what they are. That'll be my challenge for the day. And it'll keep me outta the heat. Yay.

Speaking of heat, if the weatherturdsnerds can be trusted, it's gonna cool off by Saturday...in the 70s. I'm here for it!

Carry on. BBL

I used to buy manuals. I think they are a lot more fun to drive.
I agree.. I much prefer them, I feel if I had an automatic I might fall asleep at the wheel.. lol... seriously tho'.. I don't like the slower response of Automatics.. when moving off from a starting point..like a junction or a roundabout...

I went outside at 6 a.m. to watch the sunrise, and it was bloody humid out there. I don't like glowing that early in the morning.

Normally, I don't mind the heat and humidity. It is so much better than snow, and I'm still used to despite not having lived in the South for 34 years (and homesick during those decades).

I am getting ready for a visit from my daughter. I am buying her car from her -- a 2004 Honda CRV with 102,000 miles on it. My mother was the original owner, then me, then my daughter, and now me again. I'm going to see if I can buy a few of the latest things for it -- like blind spot detectors, dash cam, and a backup thing that lets you see behind you. This car is still in very good condition and has been well-maintained.

The strange things is one of my best friends since I was in my early 20s drives the same car. Hers has a lot more mileage on it.

My daughter is moving to France in a couple of weeks. She decided to go to a university there, to major in French. She already has a BS in Math and an MS in data science. I do not know why she wants to be fluent in French -- but I know she will be by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, she is pressuring me to get my German citizenship, and apply for it for my kids, too. I don't speak German, but I am learning (and re-learning) it, along with one of my sons. We are going to Germany to find my Uncle and make sure he is okay. Why do we have to find him? Because my sister got all my mom's papers when she died (as executor) and she refuses to give me his address and phone number. Why? Because she never gives out other people's information. She was a career bureaucrat. Now I don't communicate with her. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I understand your feeling about this.... I have a similar sitution with one of my sisters.

My father not long before he died, divided up family photos and just handed then out Willy Nilly to various family members, not caring who got what..

My sister has the only photos of me as a Baby.. and refuses to give them to me.. or even copy them and send them to me by email... and equally , she has some photos taken of MY daughter as a toddler at another sister's wedding that were taken by another family member...... and blankly refuses to give me them as well..

I cannot stand her..I despised her when we were children, and I despise her to this day...

To stop any arguments with my sister, I told my mother that she would have first dibs on my mother's personal property. My sister took it all! Okay, no worries, it really didn't bother me. But she took all the slides and photos from our babyhood onward, and from my mother's entire life in Germany. She was going to do something with them and send me copies. She didn't do that. She also decided she was the gatekeeper for all of my mother's personal papers, so if I want information from them, she won't give it to me.

The worst part is that she told me what my mother had told her about my not letting her see my kids for 3 years. My mother lied to her! I told her the truth and she told me I was lying!

Then she accused me of stealing a scarf from my mother's possessions. She was really mad about that. Only problem is that I didn't take it. A scarf? These scarves that are decorative -- people wear them around their necks; most were silk. I *hate* wearing scarves. They and ruffles make me feel ridiculous. There is no way I want a scarf. She accused me of lying again!

In the end, I just stopped talking to her. I don't see that changing. I do not like being accused of things I did not do. I do not like her gatekeeper stance. In my immediate family, heck, in my extended family on both sides, I have more education than anyone (attorney, accountant). I have the only children -- triplets and a daughter who was born 1.5 years after them. I am not a dumb woman, nor am I a woman who has lazed around all her life. I haven't actually lazed around at all until I got cancer, and then I had no choice.

You would think I was the black sheep of the family. I honestly think I am, and I don't know why. Maybe it's because when we were in high school, I went out with my friends. She had male eggheads over for evenings of chess. Maybe we are too different. But I will say this, just because I like to have fun and joke around, doesn't mean I am stupid. It means I have a personality and am myself.

She actually hired an attorney to draft my mother's will. The attorney took the will I drafted and copied it, word for word! Except for the executor. My sister talked my mother into making her the executor (on her death bed) because she was more qualified with her bachelor's degree in hotel management.

Oh man, I really am ranting now! Sorry, not sorry.
