Carpets or wood floors, which are the best?

I had carpeting in the bedroom, but a frozen busted pipe wiped it out. When ypu get up in the middle of the night, it's much nicer to step on carpeting than a cold wood floor.

I'm a dog lover. I currently have a dog that sheds 365 days a year. I've talked it over with him, but he says he's not aware of doing it.

Thus - hardwood is better. It's far easier to clean given the dog hair issue.
 

We always thought that when we updated our flooring we'd go from carpet to hardwood all over. Over time, and having osteoporosis we are more considering carpet, at least in some areas. I love the look of hardwood and less allergies, etc. however, I think carpet is easier. Rugs over hardwood could cause falls. We're told to get rid of area rugs.
So, it's a lot to think about.
 
Even having mostly hard floors, I don’t have any area rugs. The one exception is at the entrances in the winter.

According to the municipal house inspector, the stairs to the basement had to have carpet on before he’d ok the permit. We put the carpet on and one of the movers slipped while bringing things in. IMO, the house inspector was a jerk. We have hard stairs now. They have much better grip and they’re easier to clean. If I fall it’ll hurt no matter what’s on them.

When we bought this house, almost all of it was carpeted and had vinyl in kitchen/baths. We bought it with the intent of changing it. My flooring now ranges from tile in the kitchen, bathrooms, and basement to hard wood flooring in the bedrooms, den, and living and dining rooms. The stairs and hallways upstairs are carpeted. I have added large area rugs everywhere. I don't like wall to wall carpeting. With area rugs, I can move them around, etc. All of them have the padding that keeps them from slipping. There was only one time, years ago, where I fell due to a small rug. I have since removed that.

Edited: I forgot to mention that the sunroom is vinyl. I have thought of making it tile. Will see.

Nah, he's a mongrel. Meaning, I think he's a mix of many breeds. I've asked him not to shed, but while he agree's not to, he carries on. Sadly, he doesn't even have a nice fur, it's wiry. He's a disaster, basically. Luckily for him, he's cute.

Today I had to cut the hair around his eyes, because it grows and blinds him. What kind of evolutionary nonsense is that?
 
Hard wood floors with a vapor barrier, If its attached I add the loose one down first anyway.
Large area rugs work well with them is my thoughts. Hardwoods have so many options of
choice and they last for many years.

Carpets are sort of a filthy way to live and cleaning them is a sweat too. Moving furniture. ?

Yes, I like the long rectangular tile (Wood Like) in Bathrooms and other places like hallways.

I like and live with some carpet, just saying.

Cats too. Large area rugs with furniture are best For Us. Small ones seem to attract odors an they move around.

I had a dog from the pound who looked like this, the vet said some of them have hair over their eyes for protection. I didn't cut it, but I did push it back all the time. The reason I guessed Corgi was my father got one from the pound after my mother died. All cleaning had stopped. The dog hair got so bad in his bedroom it was up over the baseboards. LOL Sweet dog though.
