Remember loyalty buying of a certain Manufacturer?

My Grandparents after years of buying appliances and furniture began to stick with certain companies
merchandise repeatedly. I know some people still do the same with cars now.
Do you tend to stick to a manufacturer brand? Is it large or small appliances, furniture, clothing?

My son here, works for a Chevy dealer so he has until now always just had a chevy.
He broke the chain his last purchase and bought a Ford Bronco. His daughter asked him "How can you do that, buy a Ford
when you work for Chevy. Isn't that against the law or something?"

I don’t have any major brand loyalties and have bought many things used for pennies on the dollar simply to live better for less.

I do tend towards certain food items if all things are equal.

It depends on the product. Some things I refuse to buy anything else simply because I like the product or find it to be the best available. That's with all things. Anything I am not picky about I will often purchase cheaper items.

Appliance manufacturers often outsource certain product manufacturing to other companies to gain access to products they are not set up to build efficiently themselves. One company may manufacture an appliance, then have another company rebrand it under their own label. This is common.

For example, Kenmore was part of Sears, and Kenmore is still made, but most of their laundry and dishwasher products are made by Whirlpool. The name on the appliance doesn't have the same meaning today as it may have in years past.

I try to check consumer reports before I buy appliances (or even things like mattresses). I only checked the first time I bought a car on my own, after that I just bought the same car (I'm only on the third one). The hard part is to remember to cancel the Consumer Reports subscription.

Totally agree with that. I don't feel it's the same. I think I end up buying Speed Queen because I don't want a computerized display that can cost more than the machine itself to replace. I still use the push in button type, probably always will

Now I will admit for my glucosamine sulfate, I always buy Spring Valley from Walmart. I don't think I have any other loyalties to any item except for price.

Price definitely is in the equation in today's market, I understand that.

I have a Gateway now, but I'm still running a 2010 HP on Windows 7. Battery died long ago, but laptop still works fine.

Same. 2010 HP Pavilion G series 1206us 17.5 inch. Running Windows 10 though. Yep, battery died along time ago. I had a young know it all guy tried telling me no laptop will last more 5 years.

We're loyal to Audi and Mazda. I'm on my 5th Audi since 2009 and Hubby is on his third Mazda since 2017. My last Audi lasted 9 years and was still running like new when I traded it. I make the car decisions so I guess it's really just me who is loyal to Audi and Mazda.

I'm also loyal to Johnston & Murphy for shoes. They look good, fit well, are well padded and last forever. I still have a couple of pairs of dress shoes that are at least 8 years old. I wore them constantly when I was working and I still pull them out every now and then for special occasions. I bought a new pair of tennis for walking and the gym during Covid in 2020 and still wear them to this day. Most of my shoes are some form of tennis shoe these days, but they are from Johnston & Murphy. Quality is sometimes worth the splurge.

I was surprised to learn that plain old Cheerios has dominated cereal sales for a long time. In second place ... Cheerios with some sugar on it.

Kenmore, though they don’t exist now. Too bad. Still have my stove and the dishwasher just gave up after 20 years. The washer was Maytag and replaced with a Kenmore compact stacking set in 2012.

I try to do my due delligence when shopping by comparing different brands, but if I have history with a brand I will lean that way, but there's no brand I feel loyal to.

Bought his first Buick in 1967 and stayed loyal until he passed.

We started out our married life with furniture and appliances from Sears & Roebuck. In time I happened to start working for Sears and sold lawn and garden tools and then appliances. I always knew which were the best to buy so we still have a Craftsman lawn mower 25 years old. Our frig and microhood are at least twenty years old.
I still have a treadmill, dehumidifier, air cleaner, two vacuums, many power and hand tools, all still running.
Well, we all know what happened to Sears. It was run down by it's CEO. The Kenmore and Craftsman name sold.
End of an era.
