Because my wife bought a subscription to the Saturday Evening Post, I now have access to all their previous editions. It's kind of like a journey back in time. I've been reading copies from the fifties when I was a teen. Some people think the fifties were the good old days. Well, I do have some good memories of that time.
But, the old magazines reminded me of what it was really like. People haven't really changed all that much. There was hate and discontent then too. And, life was a struggle for many, just like today. People look at the prices and think things were cheap. But, if you consider wages that's far from true.
The ads are often funny. Women were always dressed to kill and usually in high heels even when vacuuming. The men wore suit jackets to sit around and watch their expensive black and white TV. Cellophane wrapping on food items was a big deal. And, every cigarette brand was good for your health and tasted great.
