Tribute to a garage door repairman…

I’ve lived in my house for about 6 years, never had any trouble with the garage door or opener tho it is somewhat noisy. So today i had a garage door guy out (family business) for a checkup with general maintenance that was gonna cost me $89 with no additional trip charge. But get a load of this…the tech said my door actually sounds good for the type of door it is. He took a quick look around/pushed & pulled a few things and said there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the door or opener, the spring/rollers are all still good/running smoothly & to call him back in a couple of years when it’ll likely be ready for some actual maintenance. No charge for today, he said.

I was STUNNED lol but wait…it gets even better. He went out to his truck & got a couple LED light bulbs because he noticed that one light bulb was out in the opener itself. He replaced it AND also replaced the non-LED bulb that was still good because he said his LED’s would save me having to mess with the bulbs myself for some time to come.

This gentleman absolutely would not accept a nickel for the lightbulbs nor for coming out to the house. Then as he was leaving he noticed one screw was missing on one of the rails and he got a screw from his truck & screwed it in, wished me well & got in his truck & left. All of this for $0.00.

Amazing experience.
And I know i didn’t dream it up because he left a business card.
Plus i’ve still got my $89😉

That's cool, Lizzie. Maybe you can leave good reviews for him on Yelp and Google, etc.? Good businesses like his should be rewarded.
I agree. Good service should be rewarded. If there’s anyway to leave a good review for the man, that would be great. Maybe call the company itself and let them know how pleased you were with the service.

I one time had an auto mechanic basically spend an hour on a vehicle, because I thought it was overheating and he didn't find any reason that it would overheat and he said he drove it around for 30 minutes.

So I was ready to pay him for that hour of time and he's like nah he goes "I would rather have your business when you actually need it, not when I just want money" he was my go-to mechanic after that.

Btw, if he ever comes back have cookies waiting for him or a nice sandwich. 😁😁

At the moment, our garage repair man is going back to the store to pick up the correct size spring for our door. I tremble at what the charges will be but that is the price of convenience.
A few months back I paid $1K to have the springs replaced. That was about twice as much as I expected, but it was a rush job that I booked off Google-search, thought he was local, didn't realize he was driving from LA.
