Planning A Head for Living

Well, I wasn't sure how much info I should put. I don't need the kind of care you mentioned, i.e, baths, medication, etc.
My main difficulty is with walking.
Well, fortunately there are lots of solutions now for mobility (Scooters, electric wheelchairs, wearable exoskeletons), and it may be best to move to an area close to facilities that has a good public transportation network. In general, perhaps look for a place that has easy access and might fulfill what you desire for the rest of your life. If you enjoy social interaction, then perhaps a community or senior mobile home park is the answer, or at least an active senior center nearby.

Hi, Carmen. I do have to say that I'm a little skeptical of someone with $800K and can't find an assisted living facility. But your local government office of aging ( or whatever they call it) will be able to assist you.
Well, you'd be surprised. That money has to last until I pass. I've looked into some options, but when you break it down for a month to month, if I live for another 20 years, it would not be enough.

Good morning Carmen,

Glad to meet you, and best wishes in your search for a new place to live.

Here are a couple of resources: A Place for Mom or AssistedLiving.org

I looked into A Place For Mom, but I was turned down. I'll check into Assisted Living. Thank you

That's scary. The average nursing home cost $10K per month, that's $120K per year. $800K gives you less than 7 years to live.
I suppose assisted living can be a little cheaper, but let's just say by half and you can live 14 years....scarry time.

This is not the place to discuss your personal finances. There are lots of factors that come into play. Like do you own a home? What is your disability that requires assisted living? Etc.
Your local county office of the aging has answers. They are the ones with the knowledge and contacts to help you.

Welcome Carmen to our forum! I wouldn't think you need assisted living based on having trouble walking. I live in a senior living apartment (not assisted living) that is independent and I use a walker and mobility chair.
