Age yourself with a store that no longer exists.

The Woolworth name is alive and well in Europe. I bought a number of things there in June when we visited Germany. I also believe that it is a major company in Australia. Note that this is distinct from the original F W Woolworth name which was not registered in some countries, allowing the name Woolworth to be used.

One major high street store that disappeared from the UK was C and A. This was assumed my many to be a British concern, but is a Dutch company based in Amsterdam and still trading in many European countries. Mrs. L and I buy a lot of our clothes there.

It will mean nothing to Non Brits but so many of our stores which were around for decades have closed which were part of my youth and even adult hood..

of course jut a mention to the iconic FW Woolworth as distinct from Woolworth Australia... gone.. When I was a teen just aroud 19 through until I had my daughter I was the wages clerk at the small woolworths in our local market town...

Other stores tho' include big department stores like.. Lewis's.. Arnotts.. Debenhams, British Home Stores, Littlewoods.... .. just to name a tiny example...

Specialist stores Like Rumbelows & DER who sold and rented TV's

Big Box Furnitures stores Like the Iconic MFI... big DIY stores like Texas, and Fads...

Large Shoe Chains Saxone - Dolcis.. Curtess...

We got our school shoes there every year til I was in about the 6th grade. It was me, my 3 brothers, and our baby sister.
in fact, I remember when baby sis got her first pair of real shoes at Thom McAn's (and, btw, it's the fist time I realized it's spelled that way)...she got a shiny pair of little black patent leather Mary Janes with a tiny white pearl for the buttons.

She looked so freaking cute.
