In 1731, King Frederick I of Sweden was gifted with a lion that, after its death, he sent to be stuffed and preserved. The only issue was that the people doing the taxidermy had never actually seen a lion. This, the Lion of Gripsholm Castle, is the finished product:​

Fiat once had a car factory with a working test track on the roof:​

The building and the track are still there; you just can't perform the incredibly safe act of driving cars on a roof anymore. Bummer.

That racetrack featured in the original Italian Job, where the three minis are chased by the Italian police.

Yeah... that does look kinda' kooky nuts-o.

But also, just wow!! the creativity of mankind to fashion ways that get them their next meal.

Oooh, I just realized this would be a great thread for photos of classic ocean liners! I'll try to hold back.
