Paying for services not rendered

I noticed our garbage man picks up his young son from school and gets him to throw the bags in the truck. I doubt that is legal. 🙄

I have no complaints about Los Angeles City Dept of Sanitation. They come every week, empty all three barrels (recycling, trash and yard/food waste), honor appointments to pick up large item trash within a week of a request being made at no additional cost, and replace or repair the barrels as needed.

Why do you guys have separate bins for food?

Good question.
My neighbor throws his food waste and recyclables in to the same blue container. The garbage truck driver told him that it all goes to the same place, so he (my neighbor) doesn't bother to separate them. No problem.
We don't even have bins for each thing. I think there's one for recycling but not forced on us.

It's probably a feel good thing. Makes people believe the food goes to compost, recyclables get repurposed and that leaves less actual trash for the landfills.
In Los Angeles, the green bin is designated for organic waste. This includes:
  • Food scraps (fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy)
  • Yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, branches)
  • Food-soiled paper (napkins, paper towels)
I can't say what percentage of recyclables get repurposed, but reportedly all or most of the lawn trimmings and organic waste in the green bins are indeed composted.

Would this annoy me? Yes.

Does it annoy me? No. Our garbage collection process seems to work, we get regular pick ups for general household garbage, plastics, paper/cardboard, glass, and garden waste. Not having these things done regularly amounts to a safety hazard, so yeah, if the service was irregular, I'd have a problem with it.

I don't blame you Nathan. And a billing adjustment is definitely in order. Did they make that adjustment for you? I see you said it concluded on a "positive note"....not sure if that means they compensated you.

@Nathan, did you contact the trash removal services, and if so, what was the outcome?
So in checking our records it appears that we've not received either a paper billing or notice via email. Went to the trash company office today and we discussed the matter. The staff was pleasant, and eager to resolve to matter. They offered to send out a truck to pick up the bin that didn't get emptied last Friday. They got our account updated, and set up auto-pay, and everything concluded on a positive note.

I'm so glad this was resolved to your satisfaction. :)
