I have read this and other articles about the big "A" disease
and concluded on my own that I am beginning to experience
several of the symptoms described, so now what!! I posted in
another forum here about the hallucination of a cat I used to
have, which is just one of several I've had lately....

There are many varieties of dementia, Alzheimer's is only one. For example, I believe I may have vascular dementia. I've found that doctors may give us a best-guess scenario, not bothering with serious testing. Their suggestions will help but their guesses may not be accurate.

You might ask your family if they've noticed any personality changes in you.
Are you retaining your good judgment?
Have you checked your kidney health lately?

A serious in-depth study of the disease is called for and, as an exercise, can be done by you. Improve your diet, learn a new language, exercise, breathe, keep up with the latest news on the subject. Just another opinion.
 
My mother had Alzheimer's, or dementia, but her PCP made the determination, even though a definitive diagnosis was never reached. He didn't send her to a specialist (such as a neurologist) for MRI's, etc. Some primary doctors may do so.

I've always heard there is no single test to identify Alzheimer's, but there are very recent advancements in testing which may be more conclusive:
