I've been excused from Jury Duty!

If I get chosen again, I hope it’s on criminal court. My last venture was on civil court. Talk about being bored. Whoa!

One time I was excused because I not only knew the defendant(co-worker), I knew the deputy DA, the court reporter and the bailiff. Back then I was relieved to get out of jury duty, because I'd likely miss my scheduled days off, as they fell during the M-F week.

I served on jury duty twice and it was civil cases but it was interesting. I was called once in Florida but didn't have to serve. I was paid by my employer (a hospital) for the time I was on jury duty.

I was summoned to serve on a grand jury case in Florida and got out of that by my age.

I've been able to get out of jury duty because of the condition I have in my partial right knee{ had surgery in 2004} The calcium crystals get between the cartledge, can;t sit for long periods of time. My knee gets stiff & sore after awhile, have trouble getting up & walking

I've only been called twice.

The first time was shortly after having moved to a different state. I called the court and all I had to do to be excused was send proof I was no longer a resident.

The second time I did show up for jury selection. I was excused with the other people who didn't make the cut. Woohoo!

I always wanted the experience of jury duty. Shortly after getting my Virginia driver's license, I guess that's what the court system keys on, a county sheriff's deputy knocks on my door with a summons to show up for jury selection. I was selected, yay me! I got the experience, but I didn't find it enjoyable. My case involved child molestation, and the testimony was disgusting enough, but the the prosecutor didn't have a solid case. We didn't find the defendant guilty. Was he guilty? We didn't know. With the evidence as weak as it was, I'm not sure why the case got that far.

I've been called to jury duty 5 times and chosen to be a jurist 4 times. One time I was excused after all the testimony since I was selected as an alternate and another, the case was dismissed before going to trial. If I remember correctly, the others were civil cases. Haven't been called in a long time now.

It not as glamorous as depicted in entertainment. Most of the time it's a lot of sitting around and waiting.

I wish I could be permanently excused. I want nothing to do with that stuff.
If you don't then who will in your place? If called it is a duty, we all should be welling to deal with, unless we are physically or mentally unable (meaning a problem with the function of the brain)! Otherwise, the whole Justis system will break down into something that none of us would want.

I have been called twice. Both times the defendant got a plea deal and then they pled guilty, based on the deal. So, we set around for a few hours until this was all done. That was a few years ago so I guess I filled my obligation for now...

I disagree.

I agree w your sentiment, however you must not be looking very closely, we're already there.

I disagree too. It should be on a voluntary basis only. What's that? You say there aren't enough volunteers? Then try paying them something better than $25 measly bucks a day which is what I was told I would get.

I served on a jury precisely once and swore, Never Again. It was a drug case of a young black male and so obviously entrapment. I was disgusted to have any part in it. After that when I got a summons I always ignored it and nothing happened bc of that!

In Missouri, when I was called, we would be paid $0! They provided a lunch if we got to that point.... I was glad to serve (except as noted I really did not get on a trial) regardless I would serve again anytime.
