Above is a link to the news story this was taken from:

"In one demo, naturally colored cupcake frosting was nearly indistinguishable from the original artificially dyed versions. Katie Miles, Walmart product developer and pastry chef, explained that the bright colors were achieved by using ingredients like spirulina, beets and other root vegetables."

Spirulina is a kind of algae. Do we want to ingest algae to get brightly colored food?

From Healthline
"Because spirulina boosts your immune system, it may worsen certain autoimmune diseases — such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis — in which your immune system attacks your body."

From EVERYDAYHEALTH
" . . . there can be adverse results of taking chlorella and spirulina. Side effects may be more pronounced if these supplements are taken in excess. To avoid possible adverse outcomes, check with your healthcare provider before adding chlorella and spirulina to your dietary routine."

I need to send that to my DIL, she loves those cookies with 4 inches of brightly colored frosting, cupcakes too.
Just glancing at those things turn my stomach now and make my ghost teeth hurt.
Thanks Mack, I find it good to know news myself.
