DO pilots need more/better training?

Air traffic controllers are understaffed... might be part of the issue.
Taxing on a runaway one would think a pilot or pilots in this case could visually see what's happening along with listening to radio communication. Just one had to take initiative to avoid this.

Much like driving sometimes it's better to take the initiative regardless if one is driving by the book/who has the right away.

With the government shutdown, “maybe” LaGuardia was short-handed with traffic controllers. These would have been ground controllers.
Reading the article, it appears one plane had just landed and the other plane was positioning for takeoff. Of course, the NTSB will investigate and the FAA will review their findings and make any necessary changes if needed.

I can’t even imagine how this happened, other than lack of experience or inattentive behavior. It’s just like driving your car out on the highway. We have to keep looking around us and be aware of any possible intrusions. It’s not rocket science, however, traffic or ground controllers have huge monitors in front of them to watch the planes in the air or moving about on the ground.

Just a quick guess is that maybe the landing aircraft failed to turn onto the correct taxiway, or one of the two planes failed to heed the instructions to hold short on a taxiway until the other Delta plane had passed by. Also, the taxiways have detection devices to keep track of traffic. That possibly should have clued someone that two planes on a path of an incursion. It sure sounds like lack of attention, but one never knows. Freakish things happen sometimes.

I read an article that no one was injured, but later in the article, it read that 1 flight attendant had received an injured wrist. I thought all passengers and FA’s had to stay seated until the plane reached the gate.

If that’s true, how would anyone get an injury to their wrist?

She may have been injured after the accident. I have heard from a few other pilots that were in contact with their Delta pilot friends, so I am getting this information third hand. He said they were told that there were a few passengers on each plane that panicked. When that happens people are wanting to get off the plane ASAP and she may have been knocked down or shoved into a seat or piece of equipment.

When people panic, judgment and common sense go out the window.

I didn’t give thought to the fact that she may have been injured after the accident and people wanted to get off the plane.
I guess they may have thought the plane was going to explode, like they do in the movies.
