Have you met 'a Star'?

During my 'day job in the 1980's Bill Wyman came to do the (Manchester) City to do some filming.

The film crew made the mistake of taking up too much room in the street allocated for them to park up all their vans and equipment'.

The Traffic Unit despatched their Traffic Sgt. to "advise them accordingly".
Upon meeting 'Mr Wyman' - he gave the impression he don't know who he was - and was somewhat authoritatrian
After giving ordered direction, he left me to ensure instructions were carried out.

I spoke with the Crew manager and working with him organised some mutually agreeable paking for both traffic flow, pedestrian access and ease of convenience.
Upon completing the task, we made our way to the 'butty van' - where hot drinks and snacks were available.

So having a cuppa and a bacon balm cake we were joined by the man himself.
There was a friendly conversation of quips and banter, with his focus on the 'now' rather than the past which was a tad disappointing -
  • Though the interaction was one I'll remember as a pleasant experience.

Then there was the time when 'Alice came to town'.
He had played at Manchester's Apollo Theatre (a regular entertainment spot for me) and one which I had attended that week.
Whilst on my 'day job' I was outside the Britannia Hotel (on Portland street) - at the bottom of the entrance steps, when a group of young 'goth-looking' girls looked to be coming towards me. (Which was nice = :) )
  • Sadly, it was the couple behind me that was who had attracted their attention
"Vince and Sheryl" had been staying there for the week - being about a mile from the Apollo, it made ogical sense, I suppose.
The theatrical make-up and stage persona now gone, and certainly a doulble take which I took, the now "normal looking" pair seemed genuinly pleasently surprised.

Alice/Vince was a gentleman. Taking time to interact with the group, as did Sheryl (Mrs Cooper a dancer in her own right).
He asked "Anyone see the show?" - and of course I couldn;t resist.
We had a short chat about the show and his music.
  • A suprising but nevertheless enjoyable conversatiion.

I hugged actor Pat Morita at a parade in Honolulu, kissed actor/singer John Davidson after a concert (probably nobody remembers him but he was moderately hot at the time), literally "ran into" actor Godfrey Cambridge on the back stairs of the newspaper I worked for and got knocked down by Hulk Hogan, who needs no introduction.

I guess that qualifies as "meeting".

yes, of course.. and I couldn't list them all here. Quite a few have become personal friends.

I worked in TV & Film until retirement.. my now X husband still works within the biz

If I named them which I won't you will be familiar with all of the shows I worked on... and even more so my x husband

I also have several very well known celebrities as neighbours..

Sheryl Crow ---- I played in the band she was in, Cashmere, before she graduated Mizzou. She played electric piano and sang. Her boyfriend, Mike, would sing with her and they were very good. I had just finished a road tour with a show band, Stan Kenton's second chair trumpet was the leader. I had seen some very talented people on the road. Sheryl and Mike could have been that good together. But

They moved to St. louis. Sheryl made more money for one McDonalds commercial than she would make all month as a music teacher. She broke off the engagement, and moved to L.A.. you can read the rest...it is everywhere.

I never hear how Christian her and Mike were, the drummer too. We prayed in a circle before each gig praying that it would bring glory to God. :) They got booked at a biker type bar, I wore swimming googles it was sooooo smokey. Mike broke down during the gig, he felt like he was back doing his pre-Christian self. We sat on the sidewalk outside the bar and confessed our sins and assured Mike that God was with us. :)

That sounds like you must have at least one or two stories to tell / share

Wow - She was a big star - what memories have you of the converstion? sounds like they'd be most interesting
I wish I could remember more about it, but no, the conversation was very short and I think both of us had a bit too much to drink (or whatever she was using). :( I just remember complimenting her singing and telling her my favorite song of hers was "Apartment Number 9." She was really small, but had a great big distinctive voice unlike any other.

Back in the 70's my girlfriend and I was sitting in a Holiday Inn Lounge. Al Unser and some female sat in the table next to ours. We exchanged niceties and for the rest of the night left them alone.
