Did You Have Work/Life Balance?

When I was in food service no. They called me in all the time on my days off so I couldn't really get anything done.

Now that I'm in housekeeping my days off are mine to enjoy. I don't always get much accomplished but at least I'm not living at work.

Do you think you had a reasonable work/life balance?
With some employers I did, but with others I did not. My first job out of college was with a wonderful company that let us do whatever hours we liked as long as we at least showed up on each day (M-F) and kept a 13 week average of 40 hours a week (unless we took vacation etc). I loved that job, in cold weather months I'd show up at 1 pm, work for a couple hours, leave and ride my horse while it was still light/less cold, pick up dinner and go work approx 7 pm - 1 am.

Other employers were awful and gave us ridiculously impossible timelines to get work done, and the worst time was when the programmer and I finished a project a day early and we were so happy, but then the management said that since it was complete they wanted us to put it in the next release. But that required several hours more of work, and it was Halloween and my kid was crying because I was still working when I should have gotten her to meet up with her friends (and she hadn't had supper either).
