Breaking news... At least 2 People killed in Northern English city Synagogue

With each passing day, it seems like we're back in the late 60's again. I'm sick of all the hate mongers, racists, and hateful ignorant people who spew out their garbage on line. Wouldn't it be nice to wake up some day and find out that all of the dictators and dictator wannabe's have disappeared from the earth with all of their equally hateful followers. I often have that thought.

I hear you Paladin. Things do seem to have reverted. People feel free to say things that until recently would have prohibited, or restricted, through simple decorum. Anonymity (relative), and the creation of silo's of common interest, on the internet has empowered people to say whatever they like. It's a shame.

This, in turn, has raised the temperature in the real world, and we have heinous acts being brought into the realm of reality. When I read of another shooting I'm no longer surprised. I have feelings about it, of course, but surprise isn't one of them. If we raise the temperature online, we can't be surprised when it becomes real. It's sad. Still, the distance between the 60's is now sufficient that even those who lived through it seem to have forgotten the ideals back then.

HollyDolly, I saw the huge 'Unite the Kingdom' rally in London on TV Sept 13, which was led by Tommy Robinson. I thought it was inspiring, in that British citizens were speaking out about their free speech rights, notably their right to disagree with their government's policy of encouraging mass illegal migration, unvetted, into Britain.

yes and it was a fabulous thing...but the govt seem to be removing our right to free speech and the right to protest because they gave some of the protestors prison sentences.... and I wish I could say more but I can't because no Politics allowed on the forum...

:D

Tommy Robinson is a terrible person. His ideas are horrendous. He's been jailed five times. He entered the US illegally and can't follow the simplest court orders. He was co-founder of the English Defense League, which was formally known as the English and Jewish Defense League. This party is mostly known for a 2011 plot by some of its members to bomb mosques, for which they were convicted. His main thrust is hate speech against Islam and Muslims. He was also previously a member of the British National Party, which was a far right fascist group in the UK.

But hey - anyone can be a star in 2025, you just need good Social Media and an echo-chamber large enough to garner clout. As long as he has a Union Jack, I guess. I can only shake my head at people who choose to follow such a person in a march.

Mainstream normal average mom and pop folks in Britain are marching in a rally with TR because he is their main voice. The politicians don't want to hear from regular Brits who oppose mass illegal immigration.

JDL, Jewish Defense League, has been radical from it's early days in the sixties with Meyer Kahane, who, I believe, was murdered. JDL a Hate Group

Tommy Robinson is not a "regular Brit". As I detailed above. He does not represent British people. He represents far right extremists, sure. This has he has proven by his membership to various parties.

Tommy Robinson, imo, distracts from the goal of the marchers. He stains their intent through his outlandish beliefs which extent a long way beyond the simple management of immigration. That Robinson is their "main voice" says it all. He is a terrible person, with horrible ideas. The protestors need, and frankly deserve, someone much better to lead them.

That said, the government talks about immigration all the time these days, so the idea they're not listening to British people seems off. Sometimes it's just a matter that people like Robinson demand things that simply can't be achieved.
