It’s interesting how this thread has unfolded, and how it’s developed from the previous one on the same subject. Both seem to follow a rhythm. Beginning with something that at first seems friendly (Brenda), then gradually descending into something unsettling.
There’s been plenty of speculation from everyone about what’s really going on with Brenda. Who she is, where she came from, what motives she might have, or whether she’s simply unstable. And each new addition to the story seems to complicate things further, making it feel as though we’ll never get to the bottom of it.
Then there is what seems like the emotional weight of dusty’s historical recollections, which adds another layer entirely. If I get too absorbed in it, even I start to feel emotionally drained.
But the most striking detail for me is the “several hours” of "knocking" and "scratching" at the door. Something that when you add up both threads, only gets mentioned for the first time on the 176th post (the 66th post of this one). It makes me wonder what the neighbours must have thought of all that prolonged noise. Did anyone come out to investigate? What state were Brenda’s hands in after all that prolonged knocking and scratching? Did she need medical attention afterwards?
I can’t help wondering what the poltergeist made of all the knocking and scratching -- the one in dusty’s apartment that gets mentioned in another thread -- that moves things around, drops towels, and occasionally operates the 225 year old spinning wheel. "The knocks" on the "hallway entrance door have begun once more." It must’ve been quite a night, or afternoon, for it too.
