Democratic Presidential Candidate May Run As An Independent

Democratic presidential candidate Jim Webb may run as an independent. Apparently hard line Democrats not happy with some of his stances let alone candidacy. Gee where have we heard that before.

His poll numbers might not be great but this keeps his name out there and sets him up for future runs.

It doesn't surprise me, with him being a former Senator from Virginia, where a democrat can be more conservative than some Northern Republicans. His running as an independent could pull some votes from both the Dems and GOP candidates, ala Ross Perot.

I thought maybe Webb was a viable candidate... until the Democratic Party debate. Listening to him there makes it understandable why he has had difficulty raising money. He may test the waters as an Independent, but I don't look for him to gain any traction. I really don't believe he would pull significant votes from either major party candidate.

I think this is the last we hear from Senator Webb.. His threat of running as an Independent made to strike fear into the hearts of the other candidates brought only a chuckle.

When I saw Webb on the debate, my first thought was who is that old guy, trying to look important in the shirt with the silly collar? I had to look him up. He does seem to have a good record of service to the country, and appears to be passionate about it. He comes across to me as being too full of himself. "Hey. Look at all of the service I've given. Am I a great guy, or what?"

Webb has pointed out and rightfully so that the Democratic party has moved far left.

But the Democratic party can move as far left as it wants just and the Republicans can move as far right as it wants. These professional politicians have been indoctrinated over the decades that "a party" is nothing but a name and have been 'schooled' how to use them for their professional politician careers. Much of the voting public has also fell for the "two party system". The unofficial rule book has been used too long. Now that politicians & public have opened the official playbook wether it's ideology or parliamentary procedure it makes news when it should be the norm.

Time for third, fourth and fifth parties.

Our constitution calls for majority rule... or a simple majority... that being 50+1 in a vote..or more than half. That is the definition. This is why Independents in Congress must caucus with one of the two parties.

Our Constitution does NOT allow for a plurality rule. Which by definition means that when more than two parties are involved the winner is whoever gets the most votes. This is why we cannot have three or more parties unless we change the Constitution to allow for plurality vote.

I am impressed, QS. I am accepting that you know what you are talking about. I think that is a very important point for people to know. Perhaps I am unique in my ignorance, but I think that very few people in the general population understand that. Thank you for the education.

There can be more than two parties running for election... like an Independent.... A Socialist.... A Green party... but once elected they must caucus and cast their votes with either the Dems or the Reps... Like Sanders caucuses with the Democrats..
