Flu shot

The FLU SHOT season has once again arrived and I was just wondering how many will be getting the shot ......

Personally I have been getting the shot for sooooo many years that I can't remember how many.. I have NEVER had the flu ......

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the germ is transferred from someone who is a carrier to you.....
If you are in large crowds such as shopping centers, grocery stores, theaters, etc. it is advisable to protect yourself..

I am not sure if it is free to everyone but it is certainly free to everyone who lives in Ontario.. We live in NORTHERN Ontario where we already had snow and way below freezing temperatures..

We will be getting our shot within the the next week or so.............

I got mine (and the pneumonia shot) early in October. I sure don't want the flu. I had it about 10 years ago, before I was a believer in the shots, and it was absolutely awful. It was the sickest I've ever been in my life and I never want to do that again. It flattened me for about 10 says or so.

Hey no talk of snow! Think positive, not going to happen, not going to happen, not going to happen.....................(do you think it will work:confused:)

And I won't be getting a flu shot, never have and yes I have had the flu a few times, but I have a pretty isolated life these days and stay out of crowds and carry hand sanitizer and wash like I have OCD .......so no shot for this woman! And while I hesitate a teensy bit to say this because I know it's not the usual and acceptable attitude, if I catch it and die, then it was meant to be and I get to 'go home'. So no shot.

Got mine a few weeks ago. This past couple of years, I get the "old folk's dose"... supposedly a stronger dose than the 'young flat-bellies' get. I also take a myriad of vitamin supplements each and every morning. Been years since I've even had a bad cold.

I'm caught in the proverbial "between a rock and a hard place". For the past 7 years I haven't had a flu shot and so far I've not caught the flu. There's a reason. For folks like me with an auto-immune disease, CIDP [ same family as MS ], a flu shot can precipitate a relapse. Yep ... definitely the rock and hard place conundrum!

I need to schedule mine right away. Thanks for the reminder.

Debby, it's not the dying so much, it's how much you have to suffer before you die. The last time I had it, I got to the point I was hoping I would die. JK.

I haven't taken a flu shot for many years now. Last time I had the flu was when I was younger and still taking the vaccine.

I spoke to our local medical clinic where our family doctor is and we were told to come in and get the shot on Thursday November 5th when I have an appointment at the blood lab anyway..

Also get the pneumonia booster if you haven't had one in the last five years I believe they said...

We, over here, are recommended to have one pneumonia vaccine at 65 or over.
we repeat it every 5 years only if there is an underlying health condition.

BTW, Vivjen, I found your great uncle and he impressed me. I hope to emulate him as I continue my quest...

My hubby got his last week free at our GP's as he's over 65. But I haven't done it yet. I'll have to go a local pharmacy to get one like I did last year. I don't want to take the chance of flu right before traveling.

Got mine yesterday-arm isn`t even sore today. They didn`t offer me the "Supershot",even though I am now 65. Didn`t offer me the pneumonia shot either, although I probably should get it since I just had pneumonia. I had that one before, but can`t read the date on the sticker that Kaiser put on my medical card. Left Kaiser in Sept. of 2010 though,so I know it`s been over 5 years.

Me, too, Shirley. And there isn't much they can do for it except let it run its course. It seriously scared me.

People think the walkin' around crud that people get all the time is the real flu. It isn't! The real influenza is about a zillion times worse and can kill you.

I got mine, don't know why though. Last year they missed the formula by a mile. I got so sick I was worried about puling through. Only reason I didn't go to hospital is because that seems to be a death sentence for flu sufferers.
