The Name of the Rose is the 1980 debut novel by Italian author Umberto Eco.
It is an historical murder mystery set in an Italian monastery in the year 1327, and an intellectual mystery combining semiotics in fiction, biblical analysis, medieval studies, and literary theory.
I never read the book, but the 8 part series was one of those that had me engrossed.
Each episode is 50 minutes
Have a look for it, I got the DVDs from my local library.
Streaming on Apple, Prime, Fetch...

@Bretrick I watched the whole thing today, yep, I could not stop watching it. I am going to rewatch
it at night since every neighbor who has a cycle or a moped/scooter thingy were out riding the neighborhood
and drowned out much of the whispered talks between people. Something like these thinking kind of movies
I like to watch again to make sure I didn't miss a twist or light-bulb moment.
So Thank you! 🤗

Many times when a low voice/whisper is employed I rewind to make sure I got it.
Hate missing what might be crucial dialogue.

@IrishEyes Here is another series you might enjoy.
Absolutely brilliant. I give it a rare 10/10
I, Claudius -
Derek Jacobi as Claudius
1976 - 10-hour series in 12 parts.
Based on the novels of Robert Graves who in 1934 published his most commercially successful work, I, Claudius.
Using classical sources, he constructed a complex and compelling tale of the life of the Roman emperor Claudius, a tale extended in the sequel Claudius the God.
I, Claudius received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1934. Later, in the 1970s, the Claudius books were turned into the very popular television series I, Claudius, with Sir Derek Jacobi shown in both Britain and United States.
If you enjoy historical drama, seek this out. I love these historical/period dramas. They bring to life long ago societies.

Thank you @Bretrick I probably spend more time watching productions like this than anything else. The Roman era is very interesting
in how and why it shaped the world. Some are too Hollywoodish and sway away from facts to dramatize them for appeal. I will be looking this up very soon, on my list of "to watch" (y)

I liked the movie the Name of the Rose movie with Sean Connery. I haven't seen anything about the mini-series. It may not be until winter when things slow down for me, but I want to watch this one.
