Who has been stuck on an elevator?

I've only been once. Years ago I was on a packed hospital elevator and the elevator got stuck. I'm claustrophobic now but I wasn't back then. The person on the elevator that was freaking out the most was one of our doctors and he was sweating bullets. I wasn't nervous for myself but I was for him. Nowadays, I say a prayer getting on an elevator. I'd probably freak out if I was on one and it got stuck, especially if I was by myself.

I had been stuck on an elevator several times at work in a county detention center(jail). I would have to call a deputy to go to the machine room and instruct him how to relieve the hydraulics so that the elevator car could drift down to the bottom floor, so that I could get out.

When I was the director of a non-profit organization, I had to appear before the city council every year to renew our fund-raising permit. The first time I had to do it, I was petrified. So I put on my favorite suit, a rose one that I felt very confident in, and headed to the council session. I wasn't afraid of getting the permit because my organization had been around for a while and was highly respected, but I didn't like talking in public.

I got in the elevator at the city building and it got stuck, of course, partly between floors. The car was about half way above the door opening. The building people got the door open, but to get out of the elevator, you had to climb. I asked them to tell the council that I would be late.

The building people handed a chair down into the elevator and the guy in there with me and I had to step up on the chair, shimmy through the opening and crawl out. Needless to say, my beautiful suit had dirt and grease on the front of it and one of my panty hose legs was ripped.

By then, I had completely lost my fear of appearing before the council because I was still a bit afraid of elevators and I was wiped out completely by the experience. When I was called up for my presentation, I barely got a word out when the chairman said, "No, you've been through enough today. Permit granted!"

I hope I never get stuck in an elevator again. Unless, of course, I'm stuck with Javier Bardem or Jason Momoa....LOL

A friend was an inmate at a county jail and injured when the elevator fell a few floors to the bottom. She hurt her back and received a decent settlement.

That's actually dangerous and the wrong thing to do. People have lost limbs and worse. I was stuck several times and warned against that by professional elevator crews. Only leave an elevator when it's at the correct position with the floor. A co-worker lost an arm.

My mother visited a friend and got stuck in a hospital elevator in the 1990s. She was not claustrophobic and found it amusing.

I am not claustrophobic either. But now as a senior with prostate issues I have to pee often. This could be a real problem in an elevator :ROFLMAO: .

Who has been stuck on an elevator?

I have, and I swore that if I ever got in an elevator again, I'd have a portable oxy-acetylene cutter with me to cut my way out. 😊

Yes, twice back in the 80's when I worked as a motorcycle courier in London. The first time it was in an office building and we were stuck for about 10 minutes. The lift was not full, so there was some room for us (around half a dozen people) to move around if necessary. The second time was an office building that was still being built, where the lift was very small, and that time I was stuck for over half an hour. Not a pleasant experience, and I wasn't particularly pleased as I had other deliveries to do as well, so it set my day back somewhat.

me and another lady at work got stuck on an elevator with the mortician and a body. she was freaking out and i was laughing my head off and when the elevator finally moved again and we got to our floor there was a crap ton of nurses by the doors because they thought i was crying. lol!

the only elevator i avoid at work is the one across the street in the parking garage. in the summer it gets so hot in there if i got stuck for too long with my lungs i'm afraid i'd die in there.

Only time I can remember was being about 11
Years old and with my mother heading to an appointment on the 9th floor of a building.

elevator stopped though on the 8th floor and door wouldn’t open. We then pressed the button for the 11th floor again. Nothing moved .

My mom said “ don’t move or press anything , someone will come for us!”

Some did come for us about 15 min later…

I haven’t so far but the thought always crosses my mind while I am waiting for an elevator to arrive (claustrophobia). I always try to make sure there are other people getting on and if there aren’t, then I assess the situation and use the stairs if it’s not too high up. I would never make it in New York with all those skyscrapers.

I wouldn't either!

Once at Work. My office was on the 4th floor I had gotten my coffee and my toasted bagel from the caf and got in the elevator alone. I got stuck between two floors.

There was a telephone inside and I called for help.I just sat down on the elevator floor drank my coffee ate my bagel and finally they started to lower the elevator or the car but it was like a two foot jump I had to make from the car to the floor. Well my manager Brian was standing there and I just kind of jumped into his arms I did not knock him over.

Have 5 elevators at my apartments, and in eight years of taking my dog up and down from the 3rd floor, I have had a few bad situatopms. ..

But only once really ‘stuck’ and had the fire department come to get us out.

One time, the power went out and the elevator slid down 3 floors -smoothly- and the doors opened on the first floor. That was a strange experience.
