What's "following" someone all about?

I've only been on this site for a couple of days and wondered what it means to follow someone. Do you follow someone who seems to respond positively to what you post?
I've had a few hugs and loves from members who liked my post. I don't want to follow them if it's perceived as stalking..
Help me out here, fellow members ..what's the scoop on following someone?

My guess is that when you follow someone, you are alerted to when they make a post. Only a guess.

Thanks...you're probably right..It may not be a good sign that your the only member who has responded to this post😂
 

I don't mess with it... although I followed a few people soon after joining. All it does is under "what's new" there's a pull-down for "your news feed" and that will have posts from the people you follow. I never even look at it because I already see posts from members. Oh, it's not only their posts, either... it's every reaction they give as well. Gets overwhelming real fast.

Ok, thanks for your insight on this ..It sounds like it could easily become a pain in the ___ quickly..
I appreciate your help with this. But, sadly I won't be following you ❤️

Thanks for your response. I appreciate your input. There already seems to be a difference of opinion on this question I posed!

I just put you on follow as we seem to have some things in common. Generally, their topics and comments to threads are in tune with yours as well. No stalking here. If I thought that were the case, I'd have been gone eons ago. Often a mutual like of the same things, and in some cases, to agree to disagree. Nothing weird about any of it. I have followers who are young enough to be my children.

It's vice versa as well since, I seem to get along with folks of most generations. And, I've been through most, believe me.

Even though I follow your post, etc, Holly, I have done you the favor by not following you. 🙃
 
  1. User being followed gets an alert that someone has followed them
  2. User being followed sees their follower on their profile
  3. The follower now sees the user they follow in the online member list and on their profile and in the "People you follow" list
  4. Activity from the user being followed appears in the "Your News Feed" list of the follower
I think that's all.

P.S. I'm going to follow all members who post in this thread (only kidding)
 
Sooooo.... sorry for hijacking your thread, Veg... but people are saying they get notifications when someone they follow posts. I've never had those! I only get it in the my news feed and that's all reactions as well as posts. Is that a phone feature or something? I use only laptop for the site and notifications are for threads I follow, not people I follow.
