DD and I dropped some things off at Goodwill, then went to put some books in the Little Free Library at a nearby park.

She decided that she had plenty of points at McDonald's so used them for a kids' meal and got me a vanilla iced coffee. That coffee just hit the spot even though it's not a hot day.

Next up is making the enchiladas for dinner and giving Maggiecat her supper.

It's been a quiet day.

And more from this morning's events:

Left: My new puppy tripped me, or jumped and pulled me down, a half dozen times. At 12 m/o and 60 pounds, it's stronger than I am. Falling down on my face, being just short of 90, is dangerous. So reluctantly, I gave him a training collar to get him to "growing up" faster. It takes a while to mold a new puppy to my liking. We have a 2 1/2 acre fenced yard where the pups can roam around without restriction. Although I have to watch out for coyotes. They easily jump our 6 foot fence and will attack larger dogs.
Right: My puppy loves mud, and so I have to hose off all that dirt before he jumps again in my bed without permission. Puppies learn easily territorial issues, but getting him to stop chewing on my sandals is hopeless no matter how many leather bones I give him to chew on.

IMG_2854.JPGIMG_2879.JPG

Our morning walk continued: At our small shopping plaza, a family gave away for free nine puppies. My puppy is in front.

IMG_2843.JPG

Left: A museum piece as front lawn decoration. I would be worried it might get stolen.
Right: My daughter had a surprise for me when I came home from my morning walk. So delicious, and so totally unhealthy.

Last night's storms knocked my WIFI down to half it's usual strength, then it got worse. Now using cell phone as hotspot, which is fast enough, but not ideal. Future radar shows another storm is heading our way and should last 3-4 hours. Probably won't be on the computer much till things get fixed.

So . . . not a great day here, but thankful for no hail or 70 mph winds like some got north of us. Hope things go well for each of you weatherwise (and anywise).

That front is just arriving here. Looks like we're sort of in a calmer split on the radar for now with mostly rain, storms to the north and south of us.

Well, I started this on Saturday, but fell asleep at the computer and now it's Sunday. Yesterday was a busy, fun day. In the morning, I tried on some outfits before finally deciding what to wear in the evening.. Of course I always have to factor in what I'm going to wear on my head. The older I get, the less I want to have to fiddle with tying scarves in a fashionable manner so they will stay put. So I chose a glitter embossed pre-tied covering.

After he got back from a CPR class, my son was able to take me to Costco's eye center in the afternoon so the associate could change the large, clear nose pads (the only kind available) that he had put on when I picked up my new prescription glasses (in a previously used frame). I know he thought he had done a good thing, but I didn't notice until I got home that the new pads were too big. I hadn't worn the glasses in public for a month because I didn't like the way they looked. I wound up having him put the translucent, amber colored pads, which are smaller, from my old frame onto the newer one.

In the evening I went to the studio for Honorary Son #3's (HS#3) broadcast, usually a talk show. Last night's episode was a listening party for his new music. Though I've heard them before, his tracks had me dancing in my seat. After the broadcast, we went to see my dear friend Hunter's show and danced to his music, even with people we didn't know. A couple of them complimented me on my dancing. Even a man in a wheel chair was on the floor "dancing" with a woman who was not in his party.

As I had hoped, Hunter and HS#3 (who I had to brag on a little) bonded a bit during the break and talked about the possibility of a musical collaboration. Mission accomplished! After the show, we had lively discussions with some of the audience members. A great time was had by all. Have a sensational Sunday everybody.

laundry I may do today....no other big plans for today tho...
it is raining a bit outside, may get more before noonish.;..
and we need it......have a great day no matter what!!!!;):devilish:

Good morning, Invisipeeps.

If "they" aren't lying again, we'll get rain tonight. They lied all week long until yesterday, saying rain would start this morning. Yesterday they changed that to this afternoon. Now it's tonight. Or not. It's cold, though. 54F right now and not expected to get a whole lot warmer today or even all week!

AFAIK, there's no plan for today. Maybe I'll get ambitious and vacuum.

Afternoon Peeps of SF..on this grey dull Sunday .....

First day of the clocks going back so it will get dark much earlier this evening...apparently 4.46pm....

Did enough yesterday that I'm not doing very much today....my hands are hurting anyway. For 2 days after i've seen the physiotherapist they don't hurt as bad... but last night I kept waking up with the pain in my arm..... the insurance has only paid for 8 physio sessions, and I've only got 4 more to go... might have to arrange for more...

Have the best day you can .... 🌺 :D

Good morning to everyone. A cloudy morning with afternoon rain or it says in the forecast.

My husband has an appointment tomorrow with his ophthalmologist as his sight is getting worse even after cataract surgery.

I am doing some chores this morning and maybe have a more restful afternoon.

Have a great Sunday, everyone. :)

Happy Sunday, October 26th!

Had a nice day yesterday with DD's family.

The Major League Baseball World Series between Los Angeles & Toronto has been very exciting so far. I have great affection for both cities and am ok with either team winning. Just hoping for some good baseball.

A beautiful day is in the offing, high of 77°, low of 56°. According to the long term forecast, we'll be having highs in the 70s and 80s and lows in the mid 50s over the next 14 days. No rain expected (drat!), but I won't squawk too much about pleasant weather.

Today's chore list includes some laundry, a little cooking and running Roomba, but it'll mostly be a relaxing Sunday.

Hope all make it a great day!

So it's all done now.. it's just past 3pm and I've used the free electric to it's utmost capacity today...

The washing and drying is done, everything put away... I've batch cooked the meat and decided not to have cottage pie but to put new potatoes into the meat washed but unpeeled...

they will all freeze as soon as they've cooled down, and every time I get one out to eat I'll make a pastry top for it

It rained for about 1/2 an hour... but I didn't even shut the back door, it wasn't heavy... and now the sun is back out again.... 🌞 🌞

What is "microplastics"? (Asking for a friend.)
They are miniscule pieces of plastic that end up in the bodies of everything living, apparently. They cross the blood-brain barrier. They have been found in every part of the human body, and in fish. They are not good for us.

Where do these tiny squiggly dangerous particles come from: using plastic, especially heated plastic and other sources, like fish and fabrics that are not made from natural fibers. Read the two articles below. My down and dirty knowledge dump is woefully insufficient.

Think before you act. My stepdaughter and I read volumes on the subject. Then we decided to make our kitchen microplastic free. Before we became broke switching every plastic to stainless steel with silicone lids and investing in wooden cutting boards, we took a minute. She is 51 and I am 69. We were alive during the Tupperware Age, which has lasted forever. We are already filled with microplastics.

As such, we stopped spending our way into poverty, and we use what we bought and are especially careful with her children, ages 13 and 21.

I figure that for me, what's done is done. More exposure to me isn't going to make a difference. Still, since I bought a lot of stainless steel, I use it. Have to - already tossed most of the plastic! Also, I made sure my dog was not exposed to microplastics. That was easy, since I used stainless steel bowls for my dogs.

Keep in mind that I have never been accused of being a scientist. I just muddle through. I mean, I just learned about how chickens get pregnant (biology). I am glad I am not a chicken. I don't see why they don't get infections all the time, in their plumbing. I'm not going to research that- chicken infections are step too far.

PS You were better off at Trila, one word. Look how many I've used now! Oh, and the stainless steel at Ikea is cheap and it works fine. I bought it online. It has silicone lids. (It seems to me if you use plastic lids, it defeats the purpose of a non-plastic container.

Oh, yes! I do know about them! I never, ever cook in plastic, only store. I don't use plastic plates, utensils, or cups either!

For that matter, aluminum has been associated with dementia. Years ago, I got rid of all of my aluminium pots and pans. I do have the disposable foil, but usually use it when I am bringing food to a potluck type of dinner.

I'm having trouble going to the links right now. I think my tablet needs to be cleaned up. I will read them later. Thanks!

Oh @WheatenLover ...we're bombarded here with all the info about micro plastics in food and water.... so we're pretty aware.. but just last week they tell us now that aall our Teabags have microplastics in them..from the report

''Although many of the UK's most popular tea brands label themselves as 'plastic free', a new analysis from Which? suggests this isn't really the case.
Of the 28 popular brands examined by the consumer champion, only four were truly plastic–free.

And it is bad news for fans of some of the nation's favourite brands, including PG Tips, Tetley, Typhoo, and Yorkshire Tea.

What's more, even some of the more premium alternatives like Teapigs, Brew Co, and Good Earth teabags harbour potentially harmful plastics.

However, fans of Dragonfly, Twinings, Hampstead, and Pukka teabags can rest easy knowing their brew is genuinely free from microplastics.

The above picture hasn't copied well.. but suffice to say all the orange circles contain PLA... the Green... Certified Platic Free.. and the RED..

Contains conventional plastic (polypropylene)

Historically, teabags were made with a tiny amount of oil–based plastic called polypropylene to close the edges and make sure the bag stayed sealed.

Many brands have now ditched polypropylene, but most have simply replaced it with a plant–derived bioplastic called polylactic acid (PLA).

Although PLA does break down under the right conditions, it is still a plastic and Which? says these brands shouldn't call themselves plastic–free.

More concerningly, a number of these brands also brand themselves as 'microplastics–free' - but for teabags containing PLA, this is not true.

As PLA breaks down, it releases microscopic particles of plastic, which are small enough to slip into the human bloodstream.

Some research suggests that these microplastics could be even more of a problem when PLA is placed in a hot environment, like your cup of tea.

The heat causes the particles to break down into even smaller fragments that are easier for the body to absorb and, therefore, more toxic.

That means a huge number of the UK's favourite teabag brands could be exposing their drinkers to a steady stream of microplastics.

Did you also know that Black plastics are more likely to contain unregulated amounts of toxic chemicals including heavy metals and flame retardants which can leach into food and pose a hazard to human health. In addition, black plastics are not recyclable due to their colour.

So Cooking utenisl which are traditionally Black..like spatulas ladles etc... should be replaced... and I never use those Black clear lidded plastic disposable dishes that you can buy in Costco for this very reason...

The black color is created by adding a substance called carbon black to the plastic. Carbon black which contains numerous compounds, some of which like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have carcinogenic properties that have lead the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to classify carbon black as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” It is not yet known if carbon black leaches out of black plastic containers into food during microwaving but we would not recommend microwaving food in any color of plastic container (see our fact sheet on microwaving plastics for more details.)

Although black plastic makes up 15% of all plastic recyclables (largely single-use food containers), the vast majority is not recycled because the technology used by recycling facilities to sort plastics cannot “see” the color black. These materials reclamation facilities (known as MRFs for short) use an infrared light (known as Near Infrared or NIR for short) to sort the plastics by color and as carbon black absorbs infrared light, the facility simply does not register black plastics and they do not get sorted for recycling. As a result of this failure, most black plastic items end up in our landfills, incinerators, or littered in our environment after just a single use.

Due to the lack of recycled black plastic, the demand is often met with e-waste (discarded electronics like old computers, phones, TVs, monitors, speakers, and appliances) that contains toxic chemicals such as phthalates, flame retardants, and heavy metals such as
cadmium, lead, nickel, chromium, and mercury.

These chemical-laced plastics are melted down, mixed with food grade plastics and turned into children’s toys, single-use utensils and coffee stirrers, hot cup lids, cooking implements, insulated mugs, jewelry, garden hoses, and holiday decorations, among other items.

Two of the folks in my family drink tea, so I told them about that. Thank heavens I'm a coffee hound. But that means K-cups are full of microplastics too. I just this minute realized that.

But wait ... I'm too old to care. I've got to be filled to the gills with microplastics at my age. No one else in my home uses K-cups. Including me, pretty soon. I like super strong coffee and K-cups don't do it for me. So I have some ground coffee waiting for another day or two until the K-cups are used up.

Now my stepdaughter tells me that pre-ground coffee comes with ground up bugs. Protein!

Thank you for the info!

I'm too old pretty much myself to care to much for my own intake... but I don't believe in delberately potentially causing problems where I don't have to... so I replaced the black utensils a long time ago.. and altho' I still have any of the black single use plastic containers from Costco, I now use them for storing anything othe than food.

Black Plastic Items Can Have Cancer-Causing BFRs, New Study Warns

I'm perfectly happy using foil containers to freeze food... it's very safe, but not with anything acidic, because acid can leak through...

As for the teabags.. I'm a tea-aholic.. but I drink only very weak tea.. so the teabag just gets to wave at the boiling water..lol
