Antibiotic dosage requirements… are they kidding?!

I had a dental implant surgically placed today, and just realized the craziness of the medication dosage… Clindamycin (I’m allergic to penicillin) bottle says take every 6 hours with 8 oz water and don’t lie down for 30 minutes afterwards. Noon and 6pm are fine, but midnight and 6am???

Nope, not going to work for me. Not only the not lying down for 30min but the 8 oz of water at midnight and 6am? Might as well just stay up all night after drinking that much water and not lying back down. I’ll be calling the dental surgeon’s office in the morning and asking for something else!!

I'd suggest speaking with a pharmacist about this.

"You should avoid lying down after taking the antibiotic clindamycin because it may slow the time it takes for the medication to move down your esophagus into your stomach, potentially causing irritation your esophagus."

The above came from here -> drugs.c

my pharmacist does the math for me. he asks me what are my waking hours and then adjusts the time every six hours within that timeframe.
I decided to adjust the time I take the antibiotics… now I’m at 9:30 and 3:30 both AM and PM. I can manage getting up one time during the night but not two. I should have thought of this before taking the very first dose!

… and then I woke with a start at 6:30 this morning and wondered if I’d taken a pill at 3:30am… water cup didn’t look all that empty, don’t remember taking the darned thing. So, I dumped them all out of bottle and counted, subtracted from what I’d originally had and figured yes, I must have taken one at 3:30…. Honestly, why is this so difficult?!!!

Suggestion - before going to bed, put one pill in a little cup next to your water cup. Come morning, you'll know for sure if you took the overnight dose.

In no way do I recommend this but I often take pills with a warm liquid (decaf tea) thinking they will disolve better and quicker.
