Plugged Left-Ear .... 'Swimmer's Ear'

Years back, I went swimming and had that when I got home, but unlike other times, It wouldn't go away, so after a couple days, I went to a doctor. He looked in my ear and said my ear was all plugged up with wax. He got out his irrigation system and blew a ton of wax out of my ear. I had no idea an ear canal could hold that much. It was disgusting to look at, but he solved the problem. Other people I talked to have experienced this same thing, but people don't usually talk about it.

If we're taking bets on this, put me down for ten dollars that it's earwax.

I remember my father telling me he had a similar type episode, and went to a doctor. It wasn't ear wax. I think it was called sudden deafness. I can't remember what causes it, but the doctor told him if he waited any longer, he could have lost his hearing. As I recall, whatever they did to fix it was simple and pretty much a non event. But his hearing was restored.

Thank you all for excellent suggestions/tips.
The first Ear-Wax removal did not give a trick, but the second apply by tilting the head for about 5 minutes, a big blot-ear wax came out of from the affected ear.
Now, I have no longer 'plugged ear, ..... actually more open-passage of the Left Ear to hear clearly.
Until this happened, I never clean both ears, although I purchased three little Ear-Wax Removers in the past.
I guess, my old age finally caught-up to clean ears at least once 6-month.

I would get this quite often from surfing. Didn’t have a problem with pools. There is a lot of bacteria in the ocean water though. It was so bad once I lost hearing in my right ear for a few days. Took lots of sulfa drugs to tame that infection. Doctors still remark on how scarred up my ear drums are.

What brand worked this time? Just for my own use, becuse I've had poor results with them, although they do loosen up the wax before the doctor irrigates them.
It says, ..... 'Earache Drops' SHEFFIED(Manufatured's Name)
I have occasional cough during nights, not bad enough to wake me up, but I take 'Robitussin/Nighttime Cough DM'

In my guess, I have rather 'coughing issue' brought up by dripping a bit of nasal drip into the the throat that also causing 'Plugged Ear,' not 100%, but about 75-80%. All of three, Nose, Throat and Ear is very closely related, one got bad, the other is also affected that might be in my case.

When I was a kid, age around 14, I had a bad 'sinus infection' and got a surgery, but back then early to mid 1950, there was not much good job done, even though an ETN surgeon was one of reputable ETNs in the region where I lived.

Just I need to deal with it, .... at least good med.'Robitussin' a big help.

Years ago, I layed sideways on the bed and queezed a cotton ball of hyrdrogen peroside into the effected ear. Very soon, it woud start popping and rattling, itching, and when those feelings subsided, then I would turn my head the other way and let all that drain out; it unstopped my ear.

For a very long time now part of my getting ready ritual every morning includes dipping one end of a cotton swab into alcohol, inserting it carefully into the ear canal, then turning the swab around the other way, using the dry end to dry out the ear. I never have earwax when doing that.
