This might seem like a stupid question but do you keep ovenware, baking pans etc in your oven. I have always done this and never thought anything about it. During a son's visit he turned the oven on without looking first in the oven, only because he does not do that. Which begs the question.
 

I keep one medium sized baking sheet in the oven because I use it almost every day. It's just easier to whip it out to roast vegetables or meat than to pull out that wobbly, noisy drawer under the oven. The seldom used pans, like muffin pans are in the drawer.

yes I keep baking trays in the oven..I also keep some in the cupboard, but the ones which get used most often are kept in the oven...or in the top oven/grill...

That's the problem! Occasionally. I'm very minimalist and don't like having excess, but I, too, have lots of pans and bakeware -- because certain meals I make need that one piece of cookware.

Dutch oven -- for chili and pot roast, only.
Best frying pan -- for most things that don't need a cover.
Old frying pan with cover -- for certain skillet meals.
Bread pan -- about once a year.
Muffin pan -- about once every three years.
Square pan -- for brownies only.
Large Pyrex dish -- for potatoes au gratin, only.
Stainless pasta pan.
And on and on. I have the stainless steel set my mother gave me when I first got married and the club aluminum set my MIL got me and a dozen other pieces I use for one thing only. Also a huge Teflon skillet that's unhealthy but I have to have it if I make pancakes.

73 years old? that's amazing. Do you still use the oven and burners? Appliances these days only last around 10 years. I've always bought new when I moved so at this point in time they are 12 years old
 
Back in the days of pilot lights, I used to keep a cast iron skillet in the oven between uses.

Today I keep an ugly old Wearever aluminum pizza pan in the oven.

I use it almost every day as a baking sheet or drip pan for casserole dishes.

Another question, after using your oven this time of year do you open the oven door and let the heat out into the kitchen?

I do, mainly because it was something that my grandmother always did. 😉🤭😂

I don't because I'm afraid myself or someone else might forget or not know there are pans in the oven. The older I get, I try to be more safety minded.
 
I dont keep things in the oven except for one cookie sheet. Im very forgetful about checking before I preheat my oven
so this is for the best.

Im slowly working on downsizing my kitchen hoard. I have accumulated way too much stuff.
Some of it I forgot I even had. I hate getting down on my hands and knees and rummaging around back in there.

Ive taken everything and put it all out on the enclosed front porch in tubs. The plan is as I figure out what I will actually use I will relocate it to the kitchen cupboards. When Im done the cupboards will only have the stuff I actually use every day. Stuff I use only
occasionally will stay in the tubs. Im in the country. No one comes to the front door and you cant see on the porch from the road.

Im an unapologetic maximalist so there will still be plenty. So far Ive been thru the Tupperware and Im working on the Corningware.
I just counted today and I have 37 pieces of Corningware. :oops:

I would love to have one of those big old stoves. Unfortunately, my kitchen is in the old tower.
My wall oven is only 45 years old.

Edit: I just found a Corningware cutting board and a tea pot and a percolator in some auction boxes so the count is now 40. :oops: :oops:
FYI. I wont be keeping all this. :D A lot will be sold after I price it.

Nothing is kept in the oven. The drawer underneath has cookie sheets and smaller sheets that fit in the toaster oven. Also a couple of grates that I pull out when I need to cool off muffins.

Yes. I’m not wasting that heat.

I did set something in the oven a few months ago and was lucky I found it prior to it getting a double dose of cooking. That taught me a lesson.
 
I've never stored anything in my oven. I have a pot rack where I hang my most often used pots, pans, and frying pans. The lids are kept separately in a cabinet. Cookie sheets and racks are kept in a narrow cupboard. My large pots (8 and 12 quart) are stored in another room or on a shelf in the garage because I only use them occasionally.
 
Don't keep anything in the oven but not a decision I've made, just the way things are.
Glad someone or two mentioned the drawer below the oven. I'd almost forgotten the stuff I have there.
Mostly do-dads for grilling.

Everything thing else is in a large cupboard beside the oven.
I still have a Betty Crocker set my mom gave me when I got my first apartment in the 70's.
While I used the Betty Crocker stuff exclusively decades ago, I found I prefer pots with see through lids.
So I have a 3qt pot with a glass lid I use most often when I need a pot.

That 3qt pot along with a 3qt covered earthware casserole dish and a pizza pan are about all I use these days.
Oh and a Griswold cast iron skillet now and then.

Yes. Except for door hinges on pots and pans “closet”. Still works well although I basically haven’t cooked anything for several years. Always check regularly to ensure no gas leaks. Looks good too. Yep. My mom would say “built to last “
