Yes, today is our anniversary. I was down at Quantico yesterday and toured Arlington later in the day. Today will be celebration day with the Marine Corps band, etc. There are no public events today that I am aware of happening. I think there was a huge celebration on 11/1.

I like this picture, Pappy. I was never in Iwo Jima, but I sure heard a lot of stories from other men that were there. I doubt if there’s more than just a very few Marines that were at Iwo Jima still alive.
Several years ago, maybe around 2000, I met a man wearing a cap in the grocery store that read USS Indianapolis, CA-35. We stood and talked for over an hour. The man’s wife was very understanding. The boat was found in 2017 in 18,000 feet (5500 meters) of water in the Philippine Sea. The man wasn’t from the area. They were visiting relatives in the area, but they lived in Florida.
