Facebook "inaccuracies" , fabrications and blatant lies

I do understand the desperate lengths Facebook will go to gather[read: steal] a user's information and behavioral tenancies, but it just gets old.

Today, is not Mel Brook's 100th birthday, he just turned 99 in June. :cautious: But this is just a minor example of the deception and fakery that abounds on Facebook.

Yea, I actually do have better things to do, but I needed to vent...

It brings up the question...
How much news is really worth our consideration.

If you ask yourself how important a news story really is (to you personally) then you'll eliminate 99% of it.

And if that's true, then who cares about the accuracy of it.

If I see a story that sounds important or interesting on FB I'll absolutely fact check it.

Facebook didn't post that... Famous Birthdays did.
Anyone can report things like that when they see it and it can be removed. Blocking them helps too.
The account can also be closed with enough complaints.

I see very little of clickbait, as I keep my facebook for friends (actual people, not internet acquaintances) and family only.

My neighbour uses F B for local news , which is a benefit ….being a country area …if I want to know something I ask her …..

..example ….apprently there was a snake seen near our home a few days ago ….it crossed the road to the creek as we call it …which isn’t a creek as such …its a reserve / rainwater catchment / runoff that flows down to the sea 500 mtrs away ….most of the year it’s Dry / arid

Australia has some of the world’s deadliest snakes …we’ve got amongst others the deadly brown snake, a snake was also reported on FB of a snake near the ramp we need to walk down to get to the beach ….( according to my neighbour )

I got rid of Facebook and have no intentions or interest in going back.

I have a facebook so I can look at stuff and snoop on my inlaws but I dont post anything on it.
I give facebook the same credence that I do conversations in real life.
Just because your neighbor says Elvis is alive and living on Mars doesnt mean its true.
How do you know? Have you ever been to Mars? 😁

I mainly use FB to IM friends. I glance at articles that look interesting but I fact check them if it's something I'm interested in to make sure I don't pass on false information.

It's sad that we can't believe anything we read on the internet these days without verifying it first. The web was once a place for facts and exchanging ideas with thoughtful people. It's become a dumpster fire of lies, manipulation and anger with programming aimed at keeping you engaged and mindlessly entertained so it can force feed you advertising. AI is just feeding the fire.

If I have the time to sit here and post to a forum, surely I can find enough time to talk to my friends and family now and then instead of remotely keeping up with them on Facebook.

They post blatantly obvious false information to get comments. More comments leads to more free exposure and “ranking”. I always double-check any claim (that is worth checking) made on Facebook and half the time the claim proves false.

Ahhh, but what if your neighbor is Elon Musk?
