How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

Dinner is on.... I'm cooking belly pork rashers, in a red onion, red wine beef and mustard gravy... , and I'll have that with mashed sweet potato, and swede...

Temps have dropped significantly... had to have the heating on for an hour and a half to warm the place up... tonight is forecast to be minus 2....but tomorrow and friday will see freezing but Sunny days... before we get a lot of rain again at the weekend

@KSav , I have always wanted a weather meter, not just a rain gauge, but the whole shebang that tells me everything for at home.

Do you have any suggestions of those that might be under $100?

The HVAC tech came and did the annual inspection on my HVAC system. Thankfully, it again passed with flying colors. They don’t charge very much money to do an inspection. I suppose that’s because they don’t want to come out in the middle of winter if something breaks; especially where I live🤠🤠

temperatures where I live are in the high 70° with humidity, but I’m not supposed to get any rain in my area today. Had rain in the middle of the night which was much appreciated.

I saw a big armadillo in the front pasture, rooting for grubs. The dogs saw it too. They tried to open the window🤯

I don’t mind that they make divits in the ground for grubs just as long as they don’t dig huge holes in the middle of the pasture, like groundhogs do.

The CMA awards are on ABC tonight in case anybody is interested. I like watching them because it’s lighthearted and music is involved.

ironing: I haven’t done that since I was in my teens. When I married my son‘s father, he harbored the false notion that I would iron his underwear. Boy was he sorely mistaken😂😂. l

Hi @Imogene, I don't have any recommendations for a home weather meter like you mentioned, but your local National Weather Service office can almost certainly advise on affordable ones. I think the most important thing about those, or anything that gauges temperature in particular, is where they are placed. My ex used to get so upset at those bank signs that display the weather ("The sensor is right in the sun! It's so inaccurate!" It was actually pretty endearing.)

And you mentioned HVAC systems: I was very irritated to find out that the units in my building have heat pumps (which I detest) and are set to run on auxiliary heat (i.e., electric heat, which is expensive) at a cutoff of 50 F (10 C). I knew my unit had a heat pump when I moved in, but I'd already signed the lease. (I'm glad your system is all set for winter.)

Heat pumps absorb warmth from outside and transfer it inside. I'm not sure whose brilliant idea it was to install them at a building in North Dakota, where there IS no outdoor heat for about 8 months of the year.

Sorry for the rant, everyone! I hope everyone is having a great day, or evening, or morning, depending on where you are. :)

Per above, post processed my images from yesterday's hike in the rain work. Deleted 2 subjects due to too much leaf movement but 3 fungi subjects were strong. The below downsized for web image, a 2 frame stitch blend, from the 4000 by 9300 pixel original, is door poster sized. Fungi on a coast live oak trunk with moss. If I had known these two were the only trees I'd come upon, I'd have shot them a bit more.

Here is a 1200 by 1200 100% pixels crop from the above showing the fine detail:

Downsized for web with the original 4100 by 6150 pixels, a single frame subject. This tree trunk was near the other and there was plenty more I could have worked. About a 1.5 mile walk I just may return to:

Downsized for web with the original, a single frame of 6150x4100 pixels. These mushrooms were large, but have not yet looked up the species and all were growing on a tree trunk and its roots. Same color as banana slugs. The wet elements from all our rains made landscape elements extra saturated with color. An advantage to working in such wet conditions.

Here is a 1200 by 1200 100% pixels crop of the mushrooms at frame right, showing the real detail. A rather awkward tripod set up.

Nice work, David!

I had rescheduled an echocardiogram for this morning. It took some effort to be fed. clean, pilled ,and dressed in time for the appointment. When I arrived I was surprised to find the door locked and no visible lights inside. I called them and was told they do not work at that location on Wednesday. What? I have been going there regularly for three years. That is the only location I am familiar with. They suggested the time and day, not me. The office had called me back to remind me that $95 would be due on arrival but no mention of a different location.

Despite not going to bed until 2.30am..I got up at 5.45am..so I would be awake to call the GP surgery.. in the hope of getting an appointment today for them to have a look at these 2 new potential carcinoma's which have appeared.

The surgery phone lines don't open until 8am... so at 7.59 and 30 seconds..I called.. the answer machine said they were closed..I hung up and immediately dialled again..at exactly 8am this time it told me I was 4th in the queue....

The receptionist agreed that I need to see a doctor today.. and by the time she looked to see what was available.. and she did this in seconds .. she said.. there's 20 people on the other lines, so we need to book this fast before someone else is given it...

Incredible !.. so in total by 8.02 am there was over 20 people calling.. and the lines will be open until 6pm... ... and this isn't a city this is a very small market town ... but we're now so lacking in doctors, and doctors surgeries ( offices) not just here but country wide ... that for anything less than an emergency we usually have to wait for 3 weeks or more for an appointment unless the receptionist deems it important which in this case, thank god, they do...

Just got back from seing the dermatologist. There is a local clinic that is first come first served, no referral needed.
I was the first in line at 5:30am for the doors to open at 8:00am 😵
Shortly after there had to a dozen people waiting and by 8AM, there had to be 2 dozen people.
In and out in 5 minutes to be told by the Dr. that the mole on my back does not present as being cancerous, thankfully 😅
I'm to keep an eye on it and take pictures of it periodically to compare.

Morning all, my usual early walk at 6:45, temp was 30 as I walked across the street to buy today's edition of USA Today, wanted to read a different newspaper for a change.I used to buy this paper 3 times a week but stopped a couple yrs ago
The rest of my day enjoying the sunshine probably take mid morning walk, temps today will be in the upper 40's
Tonight having weekly dinner get together with the guys at 5:30. I called in reservation on Monday, look forward to seeing them. Connie is still at rehab ,hoping to be discharged any day now
Everyone have a good day

Good morning everyone. It is 62 degrees now but will be 85 this afternoon. I must have been lucky as I won $5.00 dollars on the Florida Lottery last night. Not much but I have not won money in this lottery for ages. I play one ticket each for the two drawings.

We will be going out this morning for a few items at the grocery store. We did manage to add air to our tires yesterday. Being elderly, it did takes some time but now they have the right amount as indicated on our tire requirement on our car guide.

Have a great day, everyone. :)

I hope everything turns out okay.

@Imogene Iron? His? Underwear? I sincerely hope that he's an ex!

We may break a high-temp record today. I'm gonna play outside this morning.

yes. He is My ex. He is my son‘s father andwe were married 14 years lol lol he was a great father.

He used to always buy me useful items for our anniversaries. One year it was a floor scrubber, which I hated and barely ever used.

Another year it was his and her chainsaws, which I loved my chainsaw and kept it up until the last few years when it finally quit and couldn’t get parts for it😂😂

@OneEyedDiva I hear you about refilling pill cases. I don't know why something that requires so little effort is something that I just loathe having to do.

@KSav What? A heat pump in North Dakota? Maybe they were on sale ;)

@Imogene Iron? His? Underwear? I sincerely hope that he's an ex!

Laundry day here.

We may break a high-temp record today. I'm gonna play outside this morning.
@Georgiagranny, that was actually my thought exactly—that it was the cheapest option!

Well.. I saw the doctor, waited 1/2 hour over my appoinment time, and he says these new lesions are not Carcinomas... and he's given me steroid cream... and a follow up appt in 4 weeks.....so that's very good news... and he must have chased up my initial dermatology appt, from the beginning of September because when I got home at 1.30pm.. a few minutes later the hospital text me with a date in a couple of weeks for the removal procedure..

I had to scrape the ice off my windscreen before I drove to the docs.. ( I do miss my Ford's heated windscreen) but by the time I left the Doctor's surgery, the Sun was out and it was blinding.. and so I drove to the next town to get the supermarket.. and the pub for breakfast cuz I'd been up since 5.45 am and it was now 11am... so I went there and had a small brunch... pubs' all decorated for Xmas...
Pub-Xmas-tree-HD.jpg

Got the shopping.. the supermarket was mobbed.. there was queues of people with full trolleys all the way up each aisle.. and there was only 2 manned checkouts... ... by the time I got out of the store the sunshine had gone and it was overcast.. and we had a little rain.. which wasn't even forecast

Anyway.. I'm home, everything has been put away....I'm changed back into my house clothes, and just about to have a cuppa char....

My only accomplishment today was filling three pill cases. There was only one days worth of meds left in the emergency case I keep in my purse. I don't like letting it get down that low. But I'm a master procrastinator. :cautious:

I use two 7 day (day and night) containers, so 28 slots all together. I take Rx and vitamins only once a day (plus another magnesium at night), so I only need to fill them once a month. I also procrastinate on refilling pill containers.
