Holiday Fruitcakes. Do you like or dislike?

Some people have a notion that fruitcake is not good.
And actually, there are fruitcakes that are not so good.

I myself like Fruitcake and the ones soaked in Bourbon,
my grandmother used to make for my granddad were
wonderful and the entire family enjoyed them.

My mother loved Holiday fruitcakes. She did not make
them but did purchase them, and they were good also.

I received a really very good Fruitcake from
a friend sent over the miles a couple years ago.
Oh, yes that was especially good Loved it!

DISLIKE. My mother would send us a Bourbon soaked fruitcake every Christmas. Neither one of us likes fruitcake (or bourbon) so we dated them and stacked them up in the basement. One year we opened a 10 year old one and it looked and smelled the same as the one we had just received. Couldn't tell them apart. We did not try it and put it back on the pile.

I never could stand the taste of fruit cake. I didn't care for the candied fruit, and I don't care for the taste of alcohol in my food.

When I was younger, I didn't like them.
However, in the past few years, we've been given home-made fruitcake that was excellent.
Also, we like the Jamaican fruitcake that was sold by a restaurant that is no longer in business.

I agree. It was the most like my late mother-in-laws and full of pecans.

I don’t like fruitcake and I don’t drink so there’s nothing that appeals to me. The only thing I liked about my mom’s homemade fruitcakes was the marzipan or almond paste. Loved that stuff.

I did not know there was marzipan in fruitcake! I love it, too. Guess I'll have to start sampling some fruitcake on the cookie trays at parties that will be coming up soon. Okay, no parties, just kidding.

Some fruitcakes have it as well as icing


But most are just plain

I haven't had fruitcake in decades. From what I remember, there was a little too much in it to chew and it was too sweet.

If I had a slice of fruit cake this moment, I would be enjoying it
with a hot cup of Spiced Peppermint tea. And some whipped
cream just might be on top of the fruitcake

The best fruitcake I've ever had was made by Rainbow Bakery Company (no longer being made unfortunately); it was almost all candied fruit with very little flour and NO nuts, lol.

I took over the fruitcake baking from my grandmother back in the 1980s, using her recipe. I gave it up after about 10 years.

I love a good fruitcake, but they're so expensive to make and take so much effort.

I like a good one, but they can be very pricey. A relatively inexpensive fruitcake that I think is quite good is the Stollen from Germany that is sold at Aldi Foods.

I love Christmas cake, so long as it's made with butter with lots of brandy in it and topped with good quality marzipan and icing. The alternative is Dundee cake, again must be made with butter and topped with toasted almonds.

I love those things and haven't had one in years. Now I'm going to go looking for one
