...make that $17.81.Quaker Old Fashion Oats.....a few months ago $5.12, today $17.20!
We have 6 little ladies who keep us in eggs, Once in awhile the production seems to slip and we find that they've found a place in the yard where they're depositing their "treasures". They're in a pen for the most part but are allowed to roam at times. That is definitely a rip-off, Pepper. Egg prices have settled back down to $2.25 - $2.75/dozen for extra large.

That's because Walmart doesn't carry them, so you'd be having them shipped from a third party seller.

YOU GOT RIPPED OFF! They are about $5 a package at my local supermarket which is not known as a big discounter.Quaker Old Fashion Oats.....a few months ago $5.12, today $17.20!
deflationWho says prices only go up? The price of a Bitcoin has dropped from about $125,000 to $85,000 in less than two months. Does that help?
Price of barley is down after peaking in 4/2022 ($263USD/metric ton), as of June 2025, it's at $118 rebounding off it's low. Time to find another place to buy barley.Speaking of basics at high prices, has anybody seen the price of barely these days? A 16 ounce bag of barley used to be about 99 cents. Now if I can find barely in the store it’s in a fancy box that costs about $5 for 12 ounces. Is there a barely shortage I’m not aware of???
It's not a rip off. WM itself doesn't carry that particular kind and size of Quaker oats, so it would come from a third party seller. That's why the price is so high.YOU GOT RIPPED OFF! They are about $5 a package at my local supermarket which is not known as a big discounter.
I’m not a big oats fan, mostly I think they are for horses. But, I mix the oats and some spelt flakes to make my granola at home. At $17 a box it would be cheaper to buy the store made stuff, though less healthy, IMO.
My cousin has 14, I think. She just dropped off 6 dozen last week. In warm weather I will sit on the back porch and they'll come a'running for some treats I provide. Funny little group but a joy to have around and they are good egg providers.![]()
Wait a minute, I am sure we are related. I am a long lost relativeI feel the same. I rarely buy anything except for food. So I buy what I want. Within reason.
I have no heirs. When I croak everything goes to a scholarship fund.
We pay that a few times a year at the Greek with a birthday or a holiday. At least you then get something for your money. Hot dogs and fries? Then I'd rather go to Mc Donalds or better pick it up to eat at home and skip the drinks. While out yesterday with DD's (DD=Darling Daughter) family, DH & I treated for dinner at a fun but casual hot-dog eatery. 6 people.
DH & I each had an Impossible Food bratwurst - the others had beef hot dogs. All had cool toppings. We table-shared four side orders: french fries, tater tots, reuben-style tater tots and cole slaw. 3 beers - about 12 oz per, 1 soda, and 2 (free) waters. Food was delish, but it was an eye-popping $166 out the door. $27+/per person for hot dogs and fries?
Sure they were "fancy." Some had a slice of avocado, or BBQ sauce and grilled onions or some melted cheddar, maybe a few sprigs of arugula, a couple of basil leaves, or a couple of slices of bacon, but still... WHOA!!!
More lesson-learned than complaint: It would have cost me an hour's work and maybe $40 to make everything at home, plus there would be leftovers.
Is anyone else increasingly shocked by the steadily rising prices of groceries, dining out, car washes, streaming services, insurance, utilities, auto repairs, subscriptions, etc., etc.?
To be fair, they were jazzed up hot dogs. Nevertheless...We pay that a few times a year at the Greek with a birthday or a holiday. At least you then get something for your money. Hot dogs and fries? Then I'd rather go to Mc Donalds or better pick it up to eat at home and skip the drinks.
We always enjoyed Hannaford's markets while in Maine and their associated Sweetbay stores in Florida. In recent years Hannaford stores have spread into southeastern Mass. (where we reside) but I understand that the Florida Sweetbay stores have been sold off.Where I live, you can buy the store brand version of well known breakfast cereals. I buy a box of packets of instant oatmeal sometimes. I bought 18 eggs at Hannaford's for only $3.99. I don't find that I am spending a lot for groceries. I guess it depends where you live. Although constantly eating out is probably expensive no matter where you live. I haven't gone to Burger King since 2013.
