The dream holiday / imaginary trip itinerary

My interest in a trip such as this is inspired by my curiosity in my ancestral origins. Here is my imaginary itinerary for my dream holiday visit to my ancestral lands: First, catch a flight from LAX to LHR, stay for say, 2 or 3 days to see such sights as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London. Next on to Bristol, where my dad was stationed, in the U.S.Consulate at the end of WWII. Apparently the U.S.Consulate no longer exists, but it would be fun just to take a "look-see" and maybe identify some of the sights from the old photographs in my possession.

So on to Wales...my Welsh ancestor that immigrated to America came from the Glamorgan region, as I am not in touch with any present day Welsh relatives, again I'd be doing the tourist thing and definitely be touring Cardiff Castle. As with the sights of London mentioned, I had a preview of Cardiff Castle in the Netflix series Secrets of Great British Castles, narrated and produced by the British historian Dan Jones.

By the way, I've noticed that travel by train or bus could be an option. I would prefer that someone else be doing the driving, as I'm not used to having the steering wheel on the Right, nor would I be comfortable driving on the wrong[ Left side of the street. 😄 A any rate, I think it would be fun to be a passenger in ground transportation, so as to be able to take in the sights.

Next stop: Northern Ireland...an ancestor of mine came from the Ulster area, not sure exactly which town but again, I know of no specific relatives to look up and visit with. No matter, I'm on holiday! So I would pick Belfast to be the next stop- looks to be 400 miles from Cardiff, so again, maybe a train ride or air flight, depending on the particular time constraints of the overall journey. Being a castle aficionado as I am, touring Belfast Castle would be the center attraction.

So far, I've given no thought whatsoever about lodging accommodations. Back in London I would expect that a hotel stay would be typical, maybe the same in Cardiff. Perhaps somewhere along the route from Cardiff to Belfast there might be a B&B availability.

Anyway, back to the attractions in Belfast- I do get a bit thirsty traveling, so I'm thinking that a stopover at the McConnell's Irish Whisky Distillery would be a grand way to quench that thirst. However, before visiting McConnell's I'd really be interested in seeing the Titanic Belfast visitor attraction.

There is a walking tour(guided) featuring historical venues and icons of The Troubles, I would be fascinated to hear the stories and see where they happened, not to mention stretching my legs would be welcome as well.

My final destination on this dream holiday trip would be...Edinburgh. Why Edinburgh? Even-though my ancestors were Scots Irish, the ancestral story may just only concern the Ulster region, where my ancestors were likely Lowland Scottish and Northern English settlers who moved to the northern province of Ulster in Ireland during the 17th century. But Edinburgh has a great big castle, very exciting and important in history. That plus, @hollydolly says the people are friendly.

Later on I may have a bit more to add to my dream holiday, in the mean time feel free to post yours. ;)

My imaginary trip is definitely imaginary. My trip would be traveling back in time visiting people in the 1700's and 1800's just to see how they think, lived, and survived. It's one thing to read about it, but it would be another to actually talk to them. We live in the greatest time in history despite all of the goings on in this current world, and it makes me sad how ungrateful some people are. I think if we could go back in time briefly, people would be more appreciative of our current beautiful world.

@Nathan we've often taken trains to get places while in Europe. We recently took a public train for 2 hours from Trieste, where our ship was docked, to Venice. We then took the train back to the ship. We booked ahead online and the trip was easy and pleasant. We've also done the same in Rome, from the airport into the city.

My current dream trip is to go to Prague, Budapest and Vienna via train and spend a few days in each city. Not for history's sake but because each city is supposed to be spectacular. There are packages that offer it and we are looking into them. I'm sure you can book trains between each of the cities you are interested in. Much easier and less stressful.

Check this out for various routes. It doesn't have to be imaginary. It can become real.

it's funny because your dream trip is a trip that we in the UK can take very easily, and relatively cheaply... whereas..my dream trip...well 2.. would be to travel a 15 day scenic rail trip through Canada's East to west coast....( very expensive from here)

...also I'd love to visit new Zealands' south Island... again very expensive from here...

I dropped the multi-colored liquid substance on my tongue and was almost instantaneously swept away to the place where images come alive by the sounds within your mind. It was an ordinary day in an unordinary sort of way, for there was ordinary about this day. Green, yellow, blue sat on the fence with eyes afire with catlike features, as I gazed inside the mirror of my soul.
Ladies and gentlemen Ego has left the building.
Times moves slowly backwards as I ponder the impossible, not to worry, it is as it should be in this place where reality and imagination are the same.

I always wanted to go see, The cabin that Richard Proenneke built, that is now a popular attraction of Lake Clark National Park in Alaska.

have you ever wanted to go somewhere, really fancied going, ...and then looked it up on Google maps.... and then decided...hmmm...maybe not worth the expense....

for example your cabin idea...in Alaska.... ?..or is it the romance that appeals to you?

The cost is what has stopped me from going. We'll over 10K per person and you can only get to the cabin by prop plane

yes I understnad, but looking at that hut on the google link I posted..I wouldn't pay £100 to see that cabin tbh..which is why I asked if there's another reason you'd like to make that trip

I've got a pretty good idea what kind of trip that'd be. 😉
