Probably my favourite steam loco that has a current mainline ticket at the moment.
LNER Peppercorn Class A2 60532 'Blue Peter' heading for York through Lancaster this afternoon. Travelling to the National Railway Museum before heading a Christmas Markets special to Edinburgh tomorrow.

What an iconic steam train and a fabulous photo of it. Looking into my laptop's photo archive I knew there was a blue steam train, it took some finding. Taken two years ago at the North Yorkshire Moors Heritage Railway, the engine is named after it's designer.

Sir Nigel Gresley was a distinguished British railway engineer and the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway from 1923 until his death in 1941. He is famous for designing some of Britain's most iconic steam locomotives, including the Flying Scotsman and Mallard, which set the world speed record for steam locomotives in 1938.

Sir Nigel Gresley is still active on railtours here. I missed seeing it just this week as I had other commitments.

Here are a couple of my fave SNG shots from the 23 shots I took of her last year.

The black and white photo just encapsulates the power of the engine. Nowadays we know of the toxic emissions that happens when fossil fuel is burned and the sooty smoke left when a steam engine is on full power. The surrounding buildings and landscape are left looking filthy. Nonetheless your photo captures the magnificence of the engine's raw power, a fabulous shot, I love it.
