NBC News App deleted

I've had it on my computer for years. They've started something new. They're tossing in sponsored ads all over the page that can't be blocked. They look like part of the news page until you see in tiny letters, "sponsored." Instead of a couple of minutes scanning the page you scroll and scroll past multiple ads to find any news stories that might interest you.

It's deleted now.

Ads are the engine that keeps the internet rolling, but I've yet to meet anyone who actually likes them. I mean, the likes of Youtube is unusable if ads are enabled (IMO). There are ways to have ads that make them less intrusive, but somehow companies have never learned the lesson and up up overdoing it.

I have an ad-free experience on the internet. I'd be more likely to accept them if they weren't either too big, flashing like crazy, got in the way of the content, and weren't just constantly in my face. But then, I get why they're necessary.

I do too. I went in search for a solution years ago because of the issues you listed. The flashing and popups just got out of control. The videos were the worst when you have a very limited data allowance.

Websites didn't do themselves any favors by going overboard.

I routinely delete apps that pop up too many annoying ads. I don’t mind ads as they pay for the “free” service I am using. But, the annoying pop up ones go to far so I just don’t use the app, and stay away from the website.

I have a hard time believing that enough people resond to these annoying ads. They must be very cheap to buy so a good response is not needed.

The other day I did respond to a Black Friday sale ad on Facebook. I think it’s been several years since I have done that. But, it was one heck of a deal, 75% off. And, I have been toying with the purchase for several months, but did not jump because of the price.
