Help! Have a critter under the house!

It's definitely a raccoon, and it's done a fair amount of damage. Having the guy come out, then checking the area under the jacuzzi tub with cameras, then trapping and releasing him (in the mountains) in accordance with wildlife regulations will run about $600. Repairs? Another $400. Sigh... I hope he's caught tonight before he creates more havoc.

A friend of mine commiserated. Squirrels recently did $30,000 worth of damage to her house between insulation, roofing and electrical. Then I think about @squatting dog's experience. I guess DH and I are lucky to have caught this early.

Will keep you posted.

I should add that, to his eventual great regret, my friend's husband attempted to remedy the squirrel situation without professional assistance.

My husband and I know when we're in over our heads. We will deal with occasional ants, cockroaches, mice or rats, but draw the line at anything larger. Same with electrical, plumbing, etc. If it's a minor fix, DH can take care of it. More than that, we pay professionals.

Both of our fathers were very handy. That said, when it came time for us to sell the houses they'd fixed here and there, we had to pay many thousands to professionals so these jury-rigged repairs would meet the building and safety codes they'd ignored.
