The KC Royals took the World Series last night, by winning 4 games to 1. A couple of these games...especially those that went into extra innings, will be remembered as some of the best in the game. Some of us were kind of hoping that the Mets would win last night, so the Royals could finish the series with a win in KC....however, we'll take an early finish to the series.

There will be some real good parties in KC over the next few days.

Lots of very excited Royals fans in our area. I'm not a real baseball fan, but did enjoy the run the Royals made. No super stars. Just a bunch of no-names that motivate each other and don't know the meaning of "give up". Lots of great publicity for the Kansas City area... GOOD publicity.

When it got into extra innings I had to get to bed but was hoping the Royals could win.

Thanks to Don M, I began my day fully gratified. I was rootin' for them each game.

Congrats Royals. You guys did good !

Yup, the Royals are not one of the big money teams, nor are their players among the highest paid....they are just a bunch of great players who, along with their managers, play for the love of the game, and the KC fans. I enjoyed watching the series, primarily to see, once again, Kaufman stadium and remember a few of the games I've attended. Now...if the Chiefs could get their act together,.......

Just as a side note, this year the World Series was the number 5 lowest rated on TV. The two teams were not well represented by fan following was the reason given. That's pretty hard to believe considering New York's huge market and the Met's very large following. I think overall, baseball fan participation is sinking lower each year due to the greed by the owners and players. It really is no longer a sport and hasn't been for many years. It is strictly a business now, which is why we see so many Caribbean players in the game compared to just 25 years ago.Up and until about 10 years ago, I was a huge baseball fan and still to this day umpire college baseball along with professional baseball during spring training. At the college level many kids are trying to impress the scouts that come to the games to watch and perhaps sign a player. What they are after is the gold ring, or I should say a lucrative contract with a nice signing bonus. The college kids play their hearts out. I still remember a game that I umpired back in the early 80's between Ohio State and Illinois, which was a Big Ten game conference game. The pitcher for Illinois was going to be signed after the game by the Cardinals. I was behind the plate and the game was for the most part, routine. In the 3rd or 4th inning the pitcher for Illinois, who had been throwing pretty hard in the low 90's, made a pitch and immediately let out a scream that was followed by a loud crack that sounded like a ball hitting a bat. The kid immediately went to the ground in serious pain. No one immediately knew what had happened. It was discovered while he laid there on the ground that he had broken his back. Gone was was the contract and the signing bonus. I found out later after the game and while in the umpire's locker room that the kid was going to have a presentation with his coach and the scout signing the contract and accepting a $1.5 million signing bonus. All gone in an instant!

If you really still love the game, go watch high school or college baseball. Most of those player still play the game for what it is; a game.

Pro sports is certainly all about the Money...and little else. The team owners are all wealthy, and the top players make millions. But then, much the same can be said about virtually all forms of "entertainment". Personally, about the Only times I tune into a sports broadcast...MLB, NFL, or even NASCAR, is when I feel the urge for a good nap coming on. A few minutes of leaning back in the recliner with some sport show on TV, and the next thing I know, an hour has passed.
I forced myself to watch much of this World Series...simply because it was a local team...but even so, I found I had to take frequent breaks from the La-Z-Boy to stay awake.

Other than TV it's much harder & costlier to see/experience the game in person. As have the costs of basic souvenirs like baseball cards which taken the kids & future customers out of the picture. The price gouging & catering to the baseball card collector market took a lot of kids & future fans out of the picture in by the mid 1990s. It is kids from that era as current adults that should be the ones paying for and/or watching those games. The MBL ratings battle was lot decades ago.

One last note, playing up to the fans and emotion the Mets manager did not do his job by not pulling the pitcher for a reliever earlier, even after the first batter was walked I would've pulled that pitcher. But in the end sports is a show which must have a story.

Royals "parade" Tuesday in KCMO. 800,000 turned out. KCMO has a population of under 500,000. The entire metro area has about 2 million. 800,000!!!! Daughter lives in the KC area. Said she had to work because most of her staff was off to the celebration. Said interstates shut down with people parking in the medians and just walking into downtown and leaving their cars behind. Supposedly, two ladies went into labor while in the crowd. A number passed out from claustrophobia as the crowd grew.

How many metro areas in the U.S. would you find that many folks celebrating a sports championship and not have someone trampled, shot, knifed, robbed, etc., etc.????

Yup, KC went all out in their celebration of the Royals victory. Our kids and grandkids are all still up in the eastern suburbs, and they said the whole town virtually shut down as everyone mobbed the parade route. The police gave up on trying to keep I-70 open, and routed all thru traffic to I-470, and I-435, which goes around the city in a 50 mile loop. I remember when the Chiefs won the Superbowl way back in 1969, but that celebration was nothing compared to this Royals win...this was the largest gathering of people in the cities history. And....like you say, there were virtually NO problems, and only a couple of arrests for minor violations....few other metro areas could amass so many people, and Not have some major problems with lunatics going berserk....kind of reinforces my overall positive view of KC.
