Looks like I am going to lose my job at Walmart (JK)

They have a big self checkout on the grocery end of our WM and a small one that is in use on the other end towards the pharmacy.
So when they want to limit the number of usable checkout kiosks they always shut the nearest ones down so that you have to walk all the way to the other end of the whole line to use one that they have working.
When it is my turn to advance to a kiosk I will stand there until a nearer one is open and tell others if they want to go all the way down to go ahead.
If I get a dirty look from an associate I just tell them that I don’t plan on working extra hard to do what should be their job.

I have never used self checkout. Before I moved from my farm last year I did quite a bit of business with Lowe's and Tractor supply. I would push my basket to the self check area and put on my best doddering old man act. A clerk always came over to check me out. I would just smile codgerly while he or she did the work.

I worked at Walmart earlier this year for several months. In orientation they stated that they have cameras everywhere so don't do anything bad. With employees, they know who you are, so reviewing after the fact they can catch bad employees 100%.

But people who are willing to risk jail for small dollars cannot all be watched at the same time by employees on the floor or one or two in the security closet. AI could absolutely help with this ... like a Tesla with thousands of evaluations per second.

I once found a boxless big bag of cornflakes on a shelf once. Another employee told me that is a thief trick where they will fill it with more expensive items and scan a box of cornflakes.

Not that hard to fix the theft problem with the kind of surveillance equipment available these days.
They can see if you skip ringing up an item.

I've done that too in certain situations ( not supermarket checkout)... but with the dizzy blonde act..''ooh dear me I'm so silly''... you're so kind....:ROFLMAO:

we don't and never have in 50 years had Checkout staff bagging our groceries, we all do it ourselves....
The same in Germany. Absolutely no supermarket would have staff for bagging groceries.

What's next in the U.S.? Kissing the customer goodbye? Well, if I think of it, as a 66 year old chap, I'd like to be kissed goodbye by a ravishingly beautiful young female cashier.

(A note for readers who don't realize that I'm kidding: Yes, I'm just kidding). :ROFLMAO:

I was attempting to be funny with the title, but I guess I failed.

I don't work for Walmart, but was trying to be a wise guy, as everyone who checks themselves out kinda works for the company without pay or other benefits. As we are forced to do the work the cashiers used to do. Who knows maybe that's why people justify stealing from them.
You didn't fail
