Christmas 1957. This was the first Christmas we had "downstairs". We lived in a house that had 2 upstairs apartments and a downstairs flat. When my paternal grandparents moved out (they were occupying the downstairs flat), the house became my dad's and we moved downstairs and dad rented out the apartments (I think he charged $30 a month - remember this was in the 1950s. That would be around $350 in today's money - still a bargain). I see dad was wearing his "party" necktie. I still have it.
