How Did You Sleep?

I know that, as we get older, it can become more difficult to get enough sleep. I generally need about 9 - 9.5 hours to feel really good during the day. Some days I get enough sleep, others not so much.

Last night I did manage 9 hours in total, but it was interrupted by a 30 minute wake cycle from 05:00 to 05:30 and the next 2.5 hours was lighter than I'd like. Still, not a bad night, really.

How's everyone sleeping?

I am on meds that literally knock me out. When I first started them I slept for 17 to 18 hours a day. Now that I’m used to them I sleep 12 hours. The odd times that I sleep less , I nap to make up for it. Before I started these meds I slept 5 to 6 hours a night. I hate sleeping so much but can’t go off these meds.

I haven't felt right, waking up too early, and more nervous than usual. I used to monitor my blood pressure but haven't been faithful with that. In a dental office, she checked it with a wrist monitor and got a systolic of 225. She switched to an arm monitor and got 190. This is stroke level. As soon as I got home, I called my MD and got in to see him today. He made a big change in my BP medicine.

High BP isn't necessarily the cause of sleep problems, but if you're feeling nervous or not sleeping well, check it to be on the safe side. It could be a life saver.

I sleep very well. Any time I don't get enough sleep, it's my own fault. That happens if I get caught up in listening to music or doing research, and end up staying up most of the night. Usually I also have a morning appointment, so I have to get up early.

If I have a bad cold and can't sleep because of it, one dose of Nyquil and I'm out for 6 hours. Two Benedryl and I'm out for 9-10 hours. Naturally, these events rarely happen.

Sleep very good every night. Typically 7 to 8 hours. Doesn't rule out a nap during the day if I feel like taking one. No way to prove that taking the supplement Saw Palmetto for prostrate helps me not getting up to pee but I'm not going to stop just to see. I'll keep taking it & enjoy those 7 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I monitor my BP. Mine bounces all over the place. My second number is usually low. The doctor seems more concerned about the top number. I take one pill at 7 a.m. and a different pill at 7 p.m.

I sleep very well and seldom get up through through the night.

A good nights sleep is a rare event. Even when I’m exhausted I know I’m going to wake up and deal with 2 - 3 restless hours.
Bummer. :(

My husband is like that too; he sleeps for maybe 4 hours and then is up for 1 - 2 hours and, hopefully, sleeps again for a couple more. He almost always takes a nap in the late morning to early afternoon.

I can't nap so I'm thankful to sleep fairly well.

I suppose I should feel fortunate in that I have only registered high blood pressure twice in my entire life, once when I was heavily pregnant and upset and once for no apparent reason. Huh 🤷‍♀️

What I never understood was that when I was working, my BP was great. About 3 or so years after I retired, my BP went screwy. Even my doctor doesn’t have an answer.

I recall when I could sleep for eight to ten hours straight without having to get up to pee. Sleeping all night is a thing of the past. A fond memory. I can sleep for about 4 to 5 hours before waking up. 36 If I'm lucky, I can fall back asleep for a while, but sometimes I can't. 🥴 I'm old and retired, so I'm not against having a nap in the afternoon.
God, this getting-old sh!t sucks!
