Be careful when shopping an unlocked tablets or Ipads because not all are cell service capable. Even online their capabilities are not that clear and both cell phone stores and box stores have staff that don't know either.

Look for words like LTE, cellular or wi-fi only. Some companies have the same model in 2 versions. Also not as many unlocked tablets as phones especially in the stores.

Having trouble with a tab so until fixed I picked up a cheap tablet at a big box store and the sales rep said it would work with my provider which it did not. Not even a spot for sim card. Went back another more experienced employee figured it out pretty fast and said it's a wi-fi only model.

I went to my cell phone store and the employee if you don't want to pay their prices just go pick up a tablet at a box store or online. All the companies/stores I went to are big national chains. Be careful at the box stores in particular because they are promoting these tablets.

If I cannot get WiFi (very rarely) and want to use it, I connect it through my iPhone.

Some things I can do on phone but things more than a quick check of something not good for more comprehensive research. I kept the tablet because it's can use it at home. The problem with wifi in public is that most networks require a password and I don't want to do private business on a public network.
