My former neighbor came for a visit today. I had a few people in who knew her. She is a musician and two of the guests were father and son musicians. They brought along a variety of instruments (guitar, violin, penny whistle, melodia) and we had some wonderful music on the deck. What a great way to celebrste the holiddays.

This morning my son and I went to our neighbor-friend John's funeral. I'm also friends with his sister Allie, who used to live in our complex. Our children played together but she and I were just good neighbors then. We bonded when she started coming to the senior center I attended. I started to call John two weeks ago on Sunday, but figured he was watching the game.

They were both strongly on my mind over the weekend. Monday I told my BFF I was going to make it a point to call Allie but that night she called me first and told me that John had passed in the hospital on Friday. I was shocked and heartbroken. They were very close and he was a big help to her, so this is going to be rough for her.

John and I bonded after being good neighbors for decades when I told my DIL to add him, Allie and another neighbor, his friend Ty to the list of seniors getting free restaurant meals delivered 5 days a week during COVID (the three of them are blind). The initiative was coordinated by a wonderful young man who's grandfather attended my mother's church. John was so grateful, as were Ty and Allie. John used to get big boxes of produce during the city's free food initiatives. He'd call me to come get some. I told him I didn't bother with fresh produce, so he said, well give what you take to your DIL, who he knew from the school system.

John was a giant with a big heart. He wasn't fat but he was 6'8" tall. As was mentioned several times during the service, he stayed in touch with his family and friends, was a protector and loved helping anyone in need. He also loved fishing and basketball. He'd call me on Valentines Day and Mothers Day and other special days to say Happy (whatever) and sometimes we'd talk for an hour. I didn't cry at the funeral but I knew tears weren't "far". Like all (what I call) "good funerals", which are aka celebrations of life, the stories told about him brought lots of laughter as well as heartfelt moments.

This evening I went over to HS#3's studio for his broadcast, which hit home for us both. It was inspired by a conversation we had earlier in the week about people who are sad (due to loss of a loved one or loved ones), lonely, depressed and /or stressed during the holiday season. He had composed a new song, which normally I would have heard as soon as he finished it (Tuesday), but I heard it for the first time with the rest of his audience, at the end of the show.

It's a beautiful, compelling song that made me think of John. Then I got teary eyed. When HS turned to ask me what I thought of the broadcast, he knew immediately that something was wrong and comforted me. We wound up discussing some heavy topics but as he walked me back to my building, somehow it morphed into anecdotes that made us both laugh. We both that!
I love that you have honorary sons and daughters. You are a well loved person diva. 🤗

...it's 4.50 am.. I've been up since 3am.... because I went to bed at 7.30pm last night ... so tired and not feeling well...

I'm still feeling rough, but I've got to go and meet up with my daughter for our Christmas lunch today... and the restaurant is an hour and a 1/4 drive from here ... on a good day....
I'm dreading the drive.. one because I don't feel well and 2 because the roads are going to be an absolute nightmare.. today, the Saturday before Christmas.

This is the problem we have living next door to the city... on holidays the roads are packed with people leaving the city to go all around the country.. or people coming from all around the country to London... so our roads are jammed solid all the time..

Anyway I'll do what I can... the forecast is for rain... just to make things even more complicated.. .
Hope your trip is not too stressful. And, I hope you have a lovely Christmas lunch with your daughter. 🌲

G'mornng folks.. on this wet mnday morning.... at 8.15am...

It's still not quite light because of the rain... but I have to go later to the doctors' surgery to get the stitches taken out of my leg. Not looking forward to that because the area where they cut out is still quite painful

Anyway on a lighter note.. the journey to and from yesterdays outing was pretty stressful, roads were packed, people were driving like lunatics, I felt sure some people must have been high as a kite.

The village where we went to for Christmas lunch is just beautiful and very well known in the UK.. Woburn..it has a huge Safari park there..
I was really miffed beause it was raining yesterday and I couldn't take photos.. it has beautiful woodland there as well

We had booked for mid-day because it was going to be crowded the weekend before Christmas day, and so I took photos of the pub interior as soon as we got there and before people came in.. and good thing I did because within 15 minutes the places was packed to the gunwales . It was the most delicious dinner I've ever had in a pub tbh.... I had lamb, roast potatoes, honey parsnips, cabbage, carrot mash, Yorkshire pudding.. and I forgot completely to take pictures of it..:D
I did remember when it came to the dessert however ...I had the Ginger chocolate brownie with vanilla ice-cream.... & strawberries
here's some photos..

Morning all, on early walk at 6:50 temp was 29 wearing no boots as I walked to the signal light and then around the building before breakfast. Its the 2nd day of winter, no snow on the ground, just little piles left from a couple days ago As I was walking noticed the sun was trying to make an appearance
Today,I've invited Don and his partner Dave over for lunch at 12:15,last time they were here end of last month, always look forward to seeing them
Everyone have a good day

Just got back from the Doctors getting my stitches out in my leg ...it was so painful, and the nurse said it was because the stitches were put in too tight... it literally felt like she was pouring salt into an open wound... !:cautious:

Town was pretty packed but I suspected the car parks would be full, so I left much earlier for my appointment sso I could afford to wait for a parking space.. and I was right the car parks were full but I was lucky because I got someone's space as soon as I got there, as they pulled out.

That meant I had 45 minutes before my appt so I had a little walk around town, took a bag of donations and dropped them off at the British Heart foundation charity shop...then to the hardware shop and bought a large lidded storage bin which I'll need to store things when my new utility room is being built in the New Year..

When I came out from the Nurse.. I went to the pub.. and had a coke...

I forgot to say earlier.. that we got so much food at the pub yesterday that they boxed some up for us to take home.. and I just managed to find enough space in the fridge when I got home for it...
IMG-9264.jpg

.... soon after I got back my next door neighbour brought this big plate of food around for me..

IMG-9271.jpg
I couldn't refuse it..they're so kind to me...... but I had no space in the fridge for it either... so I had to let it cool down, and then freeze most of it...now I have enough food in my fridge to last a couple of weeks...

@hollydolly ,,Thank you for the pictures of the pub.
My cousin that lives there some times sends me pictures.

Lucky you to have a neighbor who brings you food.
No one around here shares.
The couple next door are a little younger than my own daughter.. and they have 3 children... . They're hard working immigrants , and both of their parents are in their home country..so I think they look on me as substitute parent figure...

Whenever they have any kind of celebration, a birthday..a party for friends... . whatever food they make they bring me a plate around too.... and during the summer they BBQ every week, and they bring me the food as well from the BBQ

On my 70th birthday this year they made me a big cake.... HUGE cake ...:D:love:

Sunday I thought we were going to a small indoor flea market.

As we drove out of town,, wondered about the direction he was taking.
Four different directions away from the small flea market It dawned on me that we were headed to Salamanca Antique Mall.

That is in an old mall,,, Shelves are in the center,, both sides & down the middle .
Where small stores once were now has all sorts of things, wood furniture, antiques,, crocks.
Then there is where a main store had once been turned into display racks, full of nick nags.
Was surprised to see more clothing on racks,, some that looked new.

A good place to wander around getting your exercise.

I want your neighbors !

This morning I lost another old friend. We once spent a lot of time together but she suffrered from dementia the past few years and more recently esophagial cancer. I guess it is a blessing that her battle is over. Another friend passed suddenly a couple of weeks ago. Each was 89 years old. Good long productive lives.

see this is a thing that's really always made me wonder. How if someone has dementia and then gets a life threatening or painful illness.. how could they describe their pain, how it's affecting them, what level it's at etc... suffering from dementia.. they can't... horrendous to think of it...

Sorry you lost your friends.. that's the price you pay I suppose for living so long... may they R.I.P

I went downtown to do laundry. I wash my bed comforters in a front loader. I think my top-loader would be too rough on them. Made some last-minute food purchases. I am all battened down, hopefully, until the new year.
that's how I feel too. I want to be home now until after Christmas at least.... with no interuptions, no visitors.. just me and peace. because at the beginning of the year I'm gonna have the workmen in every day of the week for 3 weeks..I'm dreading that...

I did a lot of napping during the daylight hours.. My Honorary Son #3 (HS#3) swears it's the new meds I'm taking, which is quite possible. It also could be because I'm always up in the middle of the night. I cut up the remainder of my Costco rotisserie chicken so it could be frozen in portions. Believe it or not, I've eaten from it 3 times and still have about 8 more servings left. I had to make room in the freezer for the two medium size storage bowls I used.

Tonight, I watched HS#3's murder mystery (with comedic undertones) on Zoom. I had seen the play in person a few weeks ago at a Community center in Harlem. I enjoyed it then and again tonight. Most of the same actors performed, except one had an emergency. HS#3 took her place as narrator. And with that voice...it's always a pleasure to listen to him. Everyone.....

good-night Sistah.gif

Me too Hearlady! Thank you for saying that ❣️I am so blessed. If you could hear any of them talking with me and didn't know better, you'd swear they were my biological children. Honorary Daughter used to call me G-ma (as do her children, my two youngest grandchildren). Now she calls me Mumsy. Her oldest child, who was one when my son met her, calls me MeMa. She stole my heart and earned the title of Honorary Granddaughter when she insisted to clean my patio to perfection years ago when her and HD did that for me. My son considers her his daughter and won't let anyone mess with her.

Honorary Sons #1 & 2 call me Ma. HS#3 has a special way of saying "Mama". ☺️ We've gone to Amazon Fresh often and sometimes take rides to the mountain. HS #1 invited me to visit him in Tampa after my husband passed. He took me to his favorite semi private beach and to a Jazz club to hear live music. He's been my son's best friend and business partner for decades. And my honorary children love hanging out with me....so cool !
😎 BTW...I have more honorary children who adopted me. They are my sons music loving friends. I get called Mom, Mama or Queen by the others.
