New year was never a big deal in my family. Dad usually worked because he traded with someone else to get Christmas off. New Year's Day was when the tree was stripped and the decorations put away. My parents weren't big alcohol consumers, so no celebrations to speak of.
We always have a family get together and, in the Southern tradition, serve a big pot of Hoppin John (A black eyed peas and ham dish) for good luck for the year.
I don’t do new years resolutions per se, but view the upcoming new year as a time of re-set, a fresh start, which I find helpful.
I am going into this New Year with no expectations, good or bad I will deal with it.
I had hopes last year and 2 weeks into it my son and DIL filed for divorce and the
family is all a hot mess being pulled in whom to stay loyal to.
Really stupid stuff to be doing. So I learned right off It Will Be What It Will Be.
And then I lost my best buddy, Oscar, that hurt worst of all.
Nothing stays the same So to just making it through the next year with sanity intact!
