Pictures From My Smart Bird Feeder

I've been wanting a 'bird cam" or smart feeder to capture our Hummingbirds(and occasional woodpecker) at the feeders. Gotta go shopping!
This one has a prong thingy for suet or fruit and a little hummingbird feeder as well. :) And it's on sale.
We've only just got it and it's our first one so I can't really rate it with any authority, but we're enjoying is so far. :)

We also have an old-fashioned bird feeder hanging from our tree (right-hand side) and the variety of birds we see is incredible. There are doves that can't reach into it so we put some bird seed on the ground for them. There is the occasional pesky squirrel that hangs on it trying to access food.

There is also a glass door that looks out on our patio and the cats stay entertained for hours!

I have to say, yours is really cool!

Then, this afternoon, other things happened:

That's not for you, Mr. Squirrel!

We've had a few visits today. I could hear the feeder's alarm going off, over the phone speaker, but it didn't seem to be bothering the first squirrel visitor so I went outside and yelled at him.

The next one, I pressed the intercom button on the phone app and yelled at, which scared him away. I've done that now three more times.

I did go out and put some cayenne in the seed, but it's not enough.

We're going to have to get the seed that comes with cayenne in it. That is the only thing that has ever worked in our previous feeders.

It starts. 🙄 LOL

I don't dislike the squirrels, it's just that I don't want them eating all the birds' food.

The squirrels, cowbirds, and grackles are a real pita.

After seeing your feeder fotos and seeing one of my Woodpecker’s looking for food two straight days, I started to put food out again, for the birds.

Spring is soon coming where I live. The song birds, et.al. need plenty to eat to lay healthy eggs🐦⬛🐦⬛
Oh, freaking blackened skies, I'd forgotten about Grackles! My husband used to call them, "The Gang Birds." Thugs. 😅

I guess they're not so scarse where you live. I'd be like: Wooooooow! A squirrel! How cute!

I don't remember if you said how your feeder is mounted. 🤔

Ours is on a pole , and the squirrel guard works perfectly, relegating them to what they get on the ground from spillover.

Years ago, when we hung the feeders from tree branches, we had a different type of squirrel guard, which also worked.

Either type paid for itself, in the money saved from amounts of bird seed .

There is lots of foods for squirrels around us, don't worry, those of you who love them. 😅😁😄🙃😗☺️

It's on a pole and husband was just saying that he'd like to know how they're getting up there. But it's a laundry pole with a t-bar on top so maybe they're jumping from the bushes.

The seed with hot pepper oil is in my Amazon cart, but now you've got me thinking of squirrel guards...

What type do you have that is working for you?

They can definitely jump, both upward, from ground, and sideways from woody shrub branches.

The squirrel guard we have now , looks like a cylinder.
They manage to run up the pole, to it,
but can't get around the cylinder (open on bottom)
In order to reach to grab the feeder to hold on to.

If that T is close enough to the feeder,
They might be able to jump from there, though.

We used one of those silver baffles on our feeder to deter squirrels and it worked. Occasionally they’d jump onto the feeder and occasionally they’d land on the feeder but most times they would miss. They are annoying but at the same time , entertaining.

Thanks you guys. :) I'ma look these up.

Maybe they can hear the camera. Most electronics have a hum to them. Once they get used to it should get more interesting and the squirrels might attack it.
That's what we've learned from youtubers with this kinds of feeders, that the birds get used to the camera and start coming more and more. :)

I can yell at marauding squirrels through the app intercom. 🤣
