Does anyone get many scams on their cell phones?

I have recently been getting scam calls, usually about late afternoon and then about 2am. I always delete them because they say they have put money into my account, I think it is from gambling places. I always delete but it is becoming a problem. My neighbour showed me how to get a scam alert on the phone so let's see if it works from today.

It seems to come in waves like a few days and then another wave of them a few weeks later.
When I delete them there is a delete and report junk/scam button and it seems to have slowed much of it down as carrier notes patterns of scam and blocks them

I don't know, I filter most of that, and I simply don't pick up calls from unknown callers. I do glance at my messages to see if an unknown is a past buddy. I don't think I get as many unknown calls as I used to, maybe they've pinned me as unresponsive.

My experience is similar to @JustDave.

I treat everything as though it is a potential scam.

I don’t answer the phone unless the caller is in my contact list.

I only pay attention to routine text messages.

I block anything that isn’t familiar to me.

The other day I received a message from PayPal telling me a package was out for delivery and asking me to sign into my account to track it.

I did receive a package that I had purchased using PayPal a week prior. I don’t know if the text was an error or some type of phishing scheme to capture my password. 🤷‍♀️

Being a bit paronoid isn’t all bad. 😉🤭😂

I do not answer any calls I seem to get more texts. I had to call a place I work with because their calls all said scam ... because their # at one time was spoofed. I think thieves and scams find ways around the basic safeguards our phone carriers have in place.

All the time. Generally between 5 PM and 8 PM in the evening without fail.

The land grabbing vultures have started back up again. I’ve started getting text messages wanting to buy my land. They always start off with “Hey -——— you haven’t got back with me. I’m just checking to see if you’re still interested in selling your property.”.

I have never gotten back with any of those morons. Instead, I delete them and report them as junk, but still they come back under different phone numbers.😡😡

every once in a while my phone will ring and when i look at it, it says potential spam call. if i'm expecting a call that day i will answer it cuz sometimes the number is unfamiliar but it's a necessary call. the oxygen guy that picked up my stuff in june had a completely different number but i answered cuz i was expecting him. otherwise i reject the call. also blocking the numbers help. after a while you get them all and then it stops.

It will soon be 3 years since I got this phone number. In the beginning, I got a lot of collection agency calls for someone with the last name of Morgan. Once they got it trough their head that the Morgans no longer had this number, those calls slacked off. Then there were solicitors, who could never reach me, so those also dwindled. These days, I very seldom get any phone calls, wanted or unwanted.

No not at all. I used to get people whining for money, but we have a don't call me register. I had that when I did some stupid thing from the mall to win a prize and you have to say you don't want calls, which I forgot and never give your phone number or they irritate you. Not scammers but organizations. Scammers actually never. Once I got a phone number I didn't recognize. Oh no. That must be the annoying people from the phone company whining for money. Bye. I don't pick up. Then I got a mail. It was my colleague trying to call me. It's a phone from the office. Sorry. I thought you were Vodaphone LOL.

I must admit I have never understood why people don't answer a call when it is a number they don't recognise. If you answer it and you don't like the call, you don't even need to say anything, just hang up and if you are really serious block the number.

What is so scary about an unknown caller? It is not as if they are going to bash you with an iron bar is it?

I remember hearing some rational for not answering the phone, because it gives the scammer some kind of information that they couldn't get otherwise. I can't remember what that was. But it makes no difference to me. I'm not interested in talking to an unknown caller or even finding out who it is. I'm just uninterested. My life does not revolve around my phone. I don't want to be controlled by it.

My cousin loved his phone, and he loved his calls. We sat down to dinner and his phone rang. His wife asked, "Do have to answer that while we are eating?" He said, "Yes." She asked, "Why?" He answered, "So I can find out who it is."

I didn't say anything. His wife didn't either.

Even though they may say they won’t call you, they can sell your phone number to other outfits. Technically, they didn’t lie.

I never give my phone number to anyone unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Not scary but I don't like being confrontational and lost the patience to stay kind and maybe the scammers stop trying if you never pick up or just click it away immediately because now I remember that years ago I did have scammers calling.

By the way don't you miss the time that you could just hang up the phone? Once a creep called cause I had a message in the paper cause I looked for a room. Just BAM. So satisfying.

When I was in my 20s and shy and raised to be kind I'd be on the phone half an hour for someone from some organizations asking a load of questions. My ex got fed up and just pulled it out of the wall lol.

I learned from him to just be rude. Otherwise they go on. Not bark but just say no with no explanation or ain't nobody got time for that.

Same with sellers on the street. I like to avoid confrontation. Do you want this paper? It's free. No thanks. But it's free! Blablablablabla 5 minutes. No I have no money. Too expensive. You want everything for free!!!! Nooooo!!!! I said I don't want a Newspaper!

That was years ago and the last one I talked to. Next time: Oh no. Sellers. Keep walking. No eye contact. One yelled that I was rude. Perfect. Antisocials have half the world, we say here.
