Bad reactions to diuretics

Has anyone experienced this?

I was prescribed them by my GP, a 'water tablet' to help with blood pressure control and within hours of the first dose I developed really frightening tingling and jabbing all in my hands, my feet, my legs. It lasted an hour or more and I honestly thought I was having a stroke.
They were called 'Bendroflumethazide', I never want to feel those sensations again, I was convinced I would die! So they are all in the bin.

I shall go back to see my doctor soon.
I trust my doctor and to be fair, nobody can predict a bad reaction to medicines. I'm already on blood pressure pills that are working so I don't understand why she added these diuretics. Doctors do what they think is best but our bodies can react in unforeseen ways.

So it is. There can always be side effects. Some are tolerable, some not as in your case.
You're right to talk with your doctor. If a diuretic is necessary at all, she may try another one.

I take only one tablet of the mild diuretic Spironolactone 50 mg per day for 20 years. It controls my blood pressure perfectly. Even this has a side effect, but I can live with it.

Edit: I just read your other thread about at what time to take a diuretic. I take it with breakfast in the morning. My doctor, she is also a hypertensiologist, recommended it this way and I agree with her.

I have to urinate several times during the day and at night, but this is more because of my enlarged prostate (benign prostate hyperplasia, BPH).

I had a terrible reaction to a new blood pressure medicine (carvedilol) on Monday. I had been on it for four days and had been feeling exhausted but didn't make the connection. I really thought I was having a stroke. Fortunately a doctor was able to zero in on the problem.
 

Mine had me on 2 diuretics and then I got dehydrated so I asked him to just put me hydrochlorothiazide. For some reason after I started my lung medicine, I haven't needed as much fluid med.
 
I had been on diuretics for many years.....after my last 6 month check up I went to pickup my meds and the doctor had stopped my diuretics without telling me why...so I get online trying to see why she stopped the prescription and found this...
