Anyone groom their pets at home?

I mean bathing, brushing, clipping and scissoring. I have 3 doodles that all need regular full grooming. For a myriad of reasons I decided to set myself up for doing their full grooms at home.

Well, it was Mikey's turn (maltipoo) to go under the clippers this morning. I did two swipes with the clipper. Man, what's wrong this is too close. Then it hits me, I forgot to put the guide comb on and I was using a 30 blade that would take his hair down to the skin. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
 

We bath and clip our dogs. We even have a grooming table like the professional groomers have. Our dogs donā€™t really like being washed and clipped but they like it afterwards. They definitely like having their fur clipped. If we take them to the groomers, itā€™s $100 to $120 plus tip.
 

I wash my rabbit's butt if necessary in the kitchen and I clip their nails there too. Once I gave one a bath. That was a long haired fluffy white one. She had been sleeping in the pee when she was very small. Lol a white rabbit with a gigantic yellow spot. A bath was really necessary. Normally they just lick each other and themselves though.

My pup has ears somewhat like a rabbit .. I wonder?

I clip Myer, due to trauma as a pup if I take her to a groomer they have to knock her out.
She tries hard to get away from strangers and the groomers place sends her to a panic.
So I took over the job to save her from panic attacks. Her back end hair grows fast and
she now knows, shaving her back there is a benefit. She doesn't fight that area any more.
It's her face she can't stand being clipped.

Mine accepts vet treatment but I've never tried to have anyone else groom or trim her. I always ask my vet to trim her nails if they seem too long and she accepts that okay even without a muzzle now. One assistant holds her securely while another feeds her treat so the vet can work unimpeded.
 
I'll try to cover everything. I need to relieve my guilt from what I did to Mikey. I still can't believe I did that since I've been doing them at home for 3 years and the only casualty has been my fingers from the ultra sharp shears.

Thank you, @MarkD. I always worried that I was doing a soso job until someone asked who my groomer since they were looking for one.

@PeppermintPatty, same here. I think the table was the first thing I got. Then it just took off after that. With my Goldendoodle Maisey the cost was approaching $150.

@IrishEyes when I took over Maisey's grooming there were several things I noticed that she was not tolerant of. Don't touch her ears or her tail. Stay away from her face. Today, three years later the only thing she argues about is the face. The tail and ears was them being to rough with her. I ask if she wants to be brushed and she rockets towards the room with the table.

Now if Mike will suddenly grow out fast to cover the mess I made.

Itā€™s just fur. Iā€™m sure your dog will forgive you. Iā€™ve done that before. Luckily our dogs are schnauzers so they get groomed really short on the top of their back
 
Yes I groom mine at home. I have the table, professional clippers, all of the various combs and brushes. I even have the high powered blow dryer. I don't claim to do a great job, but it is passable.
I just have 2, but they are big and have long double coats.

My daughter grooms at home... she has a grooming table in the garage... and she is a City & Guilds qualified groomer.. altho' that's not what she does for a living. She had 3 doodles, as well as 6 other dogs ( she had boarding kennels).... and she groomed them all and cut teir nails etc...

Since she sold the kennels.. and has a different full time office job now .. she still grooms the 2 that she has now.. which are small dogs... but their teeth cleaning etc, she takes them to the Vet... for that..
