Anyone suffering from high blood pressure?

I will if I find out anything. These doctors are hard to pin down. In the meantime I will try Google.

Looks like it could be any number of things: stress, medication, sodium, kidney disease, changes in blood vessels. I see my PCP in a few days for annual physical. There might be a clue.

I don’t know if the two meds that the doctors have me on have the HCTZ.
I take Amlodipine Besylate and Cardivilol both twice a day.
New cardiologist cut my 12.5mg of cardivilol in half because he thought that my pulse was running too slow.
Then he retired and my BP went way up and I had to go back to the 12.5 cardivilol and doubled my amlodipine besylate from 2.5mg to 5mg both twice a day.
That got my BP right again and my pulse is better too.
I will have to ask the doctors if there are any problems with that dosage.
I was born with only one kidney and am a CKD patient although not in bad shape or needing dialysis.

Doc just added carvedilol to amlodipine and lisinopril.

I'm not familiar with those, but I checked and neither seem to work as a dieuretic. The mechanism is to relax blood vessels. I take Doxazsin for that, but it was prescribed for a different reason other than blood pressure.

It's surprising how many different approaches there are to BP control, but good news your BP stabliized.

I plan to monitor my BP more closely, since the effectiveness of what we're on seems to change over time.

I've been given a diuretic in addition to blood pressure tablets.
I figure it makes sense to take my pill at night as I am right next to the bathroom. I don't want to be needing to pee in the day when out and about.
What is best?

I have just bought an Omron Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor; I just took my B.P. and its 125/66 - 69 pulse rate. I decided to buy it because every time my doctor takes my BP it's always high, sometimes 180/90 and that's because I get anxious before he takes it. He always asks questions while he's taking it and then I get stressed. I now make a list to show him what the readings are at home. I do take blood pressure tablets 8mgs. Atacand.
That's called White Coat Syndrome. o_O I have it too. Last time at my wellness visit, my bp was normal, finally, but the nurse was nice and agreed to take my blood pressure a second time, this time on my right arm instead of my left. My bp was 10 points lower on my right arm ! (125 over 85 or something like that). :D

In prior visits my bp was usually 145 over 95 or approx, but the doc believed me when I told him my at home readings, relaxing in front of the TV, were around 120 over 80, plus or minus 5 points.

I suffer from low blood pressure and I am not kidding. My legs swell some time because my blood don't get enough pressure to pump to them.
My goodness, the opposite presents it's own problems of course.
I used to have always low or normal pressure, now for some as yet unknown reasons, it has shot right up.

What exercise can I safely do, while getting this high BP under control?
At present I don't dare do anything but some basic slow stretching and my usual housework. I feel dizzy so I don't risk trying anything strenuous. So I am getting fatter!

You might want to check w/your cardiologist about this, especially since you're experiencing some dizzyness.
He may have some suggestions.

Blood volume x heart rate = cardiac output.
Diuretics reduce the blood volume, which therefore reduces the cardiac output.
To get the same cardiac output as prior to taking the toxic medication, the heart rate would need to be much higher.
That's an example of why I don't go to doctors, and why I never take any of their toxic medications.

Personally I would keep doing as much mild exercise as is feasible, and simply avoid doing anything strenuous.
Walking is great exercise, also housework and gardening, again as long as it doesn't become strenuous.

Be sure you're drinking plenty of fresh clean pure water every day,
Taking diuretics will make you dizzy because they drive the fluids out of your body.
You don't need to do anything strenuous to lose weight. Your diet is the most important aspect to focus on.
I posted previously about blood pressure here. <--

And my normal heart rate is about 75 to 85, some time goes above 85. The higher heart rate is my body's natural way to compensate for the low blood pressure. But there is a study that shows higher heart rate is linked to shorter life expectancy.

I have a question.
Why do I feel dizzy almost as soon as I take my blood pressure pills after breakfast? Surely they have not yet had a chance to be absorbed?

Have you ever thought of wearing medical compression stockings to keep your swelling down? The stockings could also heighten your low blood pressure.

Yes. I do wear compression socks as much as I can. But those socks are not comfortable and some plastic fiber material (nylon) causes skin irration when they are so tight.

WOW! I hear you. January, '25 I spent three days in ED after my BP spiked but we have poor medical care here so in April I traveled to OHSU for a heart valve. Please, if you can't get local answers go to where you can. Also, the Cleveland Clinic has great second opinions. Another local lady was told she needed a heart transplant but after the CC second opinion it was determined that she only needed a medication adjustment.

Before my TAVR, I had trouble doing much of anything and had begun to keep my curtains closed so I couldn't see healthy people able to walk. Today, I can go for exercise several times a week and don't need to nap after making my husband's breakfast.

Perhaps you should try another brand. I wear compression stockings since I was 28 years old and am now 66. This makes most of my life. Between several brands there is a real difference.
