Public Charging of Your Phone

Over here there are several different offers to charge
you phone for free and I have seen people using them,
this I think is silly, not so long ago we were advised to
avoid them, especially the ones where you had to pay,
some of them were interrogating any phone that was
attached to it, some trains and buses have free sockets
for use, but as the latest buses are made in China, I don't
think that I would, but I have no important stuff on it
except my contacts.

So be warned, think first.

I've never charged my phone on a bus...never seen charging outlets on a bus.... and I was on a bus the last time about 8 months ago....

I've seen them in the airport lounge... never seen them anywhere else

Who charges to let you charge your phone ?

I have 3 of those.. in pastel colours... as well as ports in my car


I use the charging bank to charge my phone every night..rather than plug into the wall. I charge the bank to 100%... then I get 3 full nights of charge out of the bank before it needs charging again..

Might only be saving a little bit of Electricity but every little bit counts
 
The only time I charged my phone in public was at the airport, so I would have a full charge to watch a movie or something on the plane. I never had any issues, which is not to say it's safe, maybe I just got lucky.

Now that I'm semi-retired, no need to charge it outside my home/car.

I've charged my phone in an airport as well as onboard a plane. I try to make sure my phone is charged before leaving home or charge it in the car. I also carry a power bank with me in case I get stranded with no other way to keep my phone going.

I carry a small power bank, too. My car is old and doesn't have the capacity to charge a phone.
 
Much of my working life was spent taking phone calls, it was inevitable, being the general manager, it went with the territory. It could get tedious when a member of staff would gesture across the room with their thumb and little finger that I was wanted on the phone. "What now?" I would think.
Mercifully most of that time was pre-phone technology, in other words it was only the latter few years that I have to endure that wretched ring of the phone in my pocket or worse, that damnable ping of a text message.
Retirement has at least brought relative peace, the phone in my pocket stays reasonably quiet. I do get updates from friends in our social circle about functions like vintage events, they know I am not on Facebook, so I get the odd "Ping!"
Whenever my phone battery is low when I am out and about, far from getting it charged, I would think it a result. The telephone has been the bane of my life.

There is a vending machine in one of the shopping centres
in Croydon, it includes compartments to charge your phone,
there was another a couple of years ago, in a different centre,
that was exclusive for phone charging.

I have never used either, nor would I ever.

Last year I bought 2 new Android phones and neither came with
a charger, only instructions about the size of charger, to get.

Yeah, Iā€™m with you on this one. I picked up a load of charging banks from when I was in the military. I have probably 20 of them, only because each time I was going to travel, I would grab a few. I just got the iPhone Pro 17. I can use it all day and then some.
 
I've used the ones in airports sometimes.

There are some free charger ports in sort of table/ chair pods at the beach area in my town, you can sit and have coffee or whatever while your phone charges.
I've never used them - not because of any security reasons, just no need to charge my phone so close to home.

I was actually trying to think of that yesterday when I posted (i.e., whether my car has a cigarette lighter). You'd think I'd know this; I've had the car nearly 20 years. I'll have to take a look the next time I drive.

I don't think I do because I bought a special cord that lets me play music from my phone through the car radio/CD player, and I'm pretty sure I'd remember if a cigarette lighter had been an option.
 
Here's what AAA says, but I would consider charging my phone in a public place to be safe if I used a standard AC wall outlet with my own plug-in adapter and cable, rather than a charging station or USB port.
 
When I lived in a nearby area that has city buses, the buses had phone charging whatever-they're-called and wi-fi on the buses. Never used either. I charged my phone in apartment's wall outlet; in current apartment I use usb to charge it in either laptop or PC (whichever I happen to be using.)
