Notes from Pappy's diary

I spent 25 years in Florida and its hurricanes, but this weather report has me very concerned.

We had an alert from our electric company that there might be outages. Up to 18 inches of snow possible in the area. We are totally electric powered here so I pray that power stays on.

On a lighter note, temp got down to 7 degrees last night. My heaters work great although I turn thermostats down to 65 at night.
Had a free pizza last night. After you order a few times they give you one for free.
Keeping the fingers crossed for next 3 days.

We’re supposed to get 12-18” of snow in the Syracuse area Sunday afternoon to Monday morning.

I’ll take the snow over sleet and ice. The sleet is what usually brings down trees and knocks out power.

Stock up on a few treats and hunker down, it’ll all work out. 🤗
Ah yes Syracuse, snow capital. I delivered Friehofers goodies in the university area for many years. Driving was horrible in the winter storms and then I had to face the white outs on the thruway. Glad that’s all behind me Aunt Bea.

I too, am dependent on the electric grid. Worries me since I would not have any heat or way to cook. After having lived for 20 years off the grid it makes me think I was spoiled back then. Never was without power. My only hope is that it won't be as bad as they are telling us.
When I lived on the old homestead, we heated with coal and had a wood stove in the kitchen. How dependent we have become. The hardest part was the 20 yards to the outhouse. 😊

I remember the outhouse. I remember that the coal stove in the kitchen never went out. Summer or winter. I remember that washing up
sunday for school on Monday was tuff if we visited family on sundy and didn't get home till late. Stove was cold and had to be started up. Washing was cold water. AHHHHHH! the good old days:)

At 7:30 it started snowing…hard. If this keeps up, predictions will be right. 12-18 inches forecast. We are ok as long as we have power. Lots of food available and coffee is plentiful. Sue, my daughter, brought a few things we needed and stayed for a nice visit.
I may need to search Amazon for dog sled and 12 dogs. 🤓
To be continued….

If it's ok to ask- are you actually in Poughkeepsie?

Haven’t said much because there is nothing much going on here. To darn cold to go out and I’ve been housebound over two weeks due to this lung infection. Still on antibiotics and will be for awhile. But even after all this stuff I’m still feeling positive and happy. Enough about me…😵‍💫

Tonight is KFC night. Daughter and SIL are bringing chicken, potatoes, Cole slaw and biscuits and gravy. Yea, love these get to gathers and enjoy a meal with family.

The VA is giving me some meds to help me sleep. I hope it works and I’m going to try it tonight. A lot of it is just getting old and restless I guess.

Kat was saying she got a foam topper for her new bed. We have the same type of bed and the mattress just isn’t that comfortable. Thinking I might try this foam thing too. Couldn’t hurt, might help.

Enough rambling for today. Time for some breakfast and meds. Pappy

Couple of years ago, while still in Florida, our cleaning lady gave us this Christmas cactus as a gift. We brought it up with us and set on the front window sill. It bloomed like crazy this year. It not the warmest spot because it’s by the cold window.

Again this morning it was minus 1 degree. Weatherman says real cold the rest of the week. Living on the first floor is great except the floors get colder than those places upstairs. I think this is one reason our electric bill is so high. But last summer we were nice and cool compared to other units. Trade off I guess.
