Who remembers Balsa Wood Planes?

When those cost 10 cents, a loaf of bread was 11 cents, so me and my brothers only got those gliders from Santa, when he put them in our Christmas stockings.

I understand now why my mom would get so upset when any of our gliders got irretrievably stuck in a tree or whatever. You might as well have tossed a whole loaf of bread up there. (only minutes after buying it )

For sure. Propeller driven is not a glider but were so much fun to see where they landed.
There was a similar rubber powered gizmo called a ceiling walker. Do you remember it?

At the Astoria Column in Oregon, you can buy biodegradable paper airplanes from the gift shop (or at least you used to be able to.....it's been some years since I've been there), climb to the top of the column and launch them into the wind.

Provided you lived long enough to finish the climb to the top, it was fun to do that.

I just looked up the price on Amazon. The glider costs approximately $3.50 now.
